So I have to analyze a song's rhetoric in-depth for schol, and I have decided to do Less Than Jake. What do you think is their most "deep," meaningful, or interesting song?

edit: Songs that have social commentary on a wide level are better than personal songs for this subject.

Uhh... LTJ are known for their not very deep lyrics and fairly straightforward approach. Obviously songs like Rest of my Life is a more meaningful song... Songs like History of a Boring Town is upbeat and I suppose the message isn't very deep in the story but hey, many in their situation can relate to how they felt.

If you like Ska then maybe you're familiar with Streetlight Manifesto. Their songs a lot deeper I guess, perhaps easier to analyze.

The Science of Selling Yourself Short. That was the first thing I thought of when I read the title.

Wrst_EDIT_Evr: If you're looking for social commentary you're not going to find it in <Jake. A good ska song for that would be "Would You Be Impressed?" by Streetlight Manifesto or "Why So Much Hatred" by The Barrymores. And a lot of Specials songs.

LTD are a good band, as far as meaningful goes that's more a question to ask yourself

However as mentioned, The Science of Selling Yourself Short is pretty good. But if you want a ska band that has deep lyrics that you can really sink your teeth into, Streetlight Manifesto is where its at. Also The singers solo acoustic album is wonderful too.

i saw a ska band yesterday. they were fat band kids with hawaiian shirts and they made dumb jokes and they couldn't play their instruments well and they were out of tune and the sound was appalling. the songs were regular douche ska pop, pretty well-crafted for the most part; they may have been covers. i kind of liked it.

I saw that Streetlight Manifesto had a new album and was like "What's the point?"

no way, dude, twinkly emo is the successor to folk punk.

hey i did not say it was true, just that i thought of it that way. because of an iffy thing somebody said once. it had to do with microphones.

yes basically we are talking sort of a bomb the music industry continuum.

Like Ska is awful but at the same time I feel like if were in a ska band right now we'd be bigger than bullshit.

Like, I deff feel like my hypothetical ska band would "make it."

yes i definitely see this.

actually i cannot imagine you in an unsuccessful musical unit of any style. like, just going by your guitar forum personality, i have to imagine if you wrote songs they would have to be subtlely ingenious but accessible and everything, or even if you just played upstrokes or power chords or whatever your band would have to be effortlessly admired locally, at the very least. i just can't picture it any other way.

you should go for it bro.
