After playing my Peavey 6505+ 112 combo for about 30 minutes the volume on my amp faded quickly to silence. There was no anomaly other than a reduction in volume, and now the amp wont make any noise at all. I've tried several of my other guitars and cables and I can't get anything from it. Everything still lights up as usual, including the LED logo.

A friend suggested that my tubes simply need to be replaced, is this the case? I've had the amp for about 1.5 years but I'm not sure how long tubes last. Do I need to just replace the tubes, or do I need to replace a fuse as well? I'm not incredibly familiar with amp repairs and could use a little guidance here.

Thanks!

Could be the tubes yeah, i probably don't really know any more than you though really. So, here, have a free bump.

Hopefully one of the techs here will stop by and give their advice on the matter.

Thanks for the bump, I really need to get this sorted out!

I just don't want to buy tubes and have that not be the issue. The tubes in back don't light up when the amp is on though, so I assume it is either the tubes, a fuse, or both.

Check that all the preamp tubes are lit. I had a problem recently that was very similar to what you're describing. I have a 6505 112, although it is heavily modified.

When i looked in the back of the amp, 4 of the preamp tubes were not lit. It is very, very unlikely that 4 preamp tubes are to blow all at once, so i opened up the amplifier to find that one of the bridge rectifiers had overheated. Replacing the diodes resolved the problem.

Open up your amplifier and look around for any burnt connections on the board.

On my amp, D6, D7, D8 and D9 are what had overheated.

Oh I meant the power tubes are not lit. I could not see the preamp tubes clearly, I will check again later today.

If the power tubes are not lit, could that also be due to burnt connections? I am not familiar with boards at ALL, and wouldnt even know where to begin checking or replacing parts. I was hoping this would be a simple matter of replacing the tubes and/or the fuse on the back of the amp.

Ah. In that case, that isn't the problem. You didn't specify what tubes went bad.

It's a lot less likely in that case. It's probably your power tubes.

Alright, I'll buy a pair and replace them. I don't need to do any biasing if I replace these, do I?

Well, they're biased so cold it doesn't really matter.

Well I gave up trying to fix it as the issue wasn't with the power tubes. Took it in to the shop, I should get it back within a couple weeks.
