A few years ago an ibanez prestige was one of the best bang for your buck guitars you could get for around a ~1000$. But now, all the cheaper models such as the Rg1570, RG2550 seem to have been discontinued and the prices of other prestige guitars seem to have been jacked up so much.

For example, I was contemplating about buying this S5470TKS a few years back for 1399$. Now it's 1699$.

http://www.samash.com/p/Ibanez_S5470TKS%20Prestige%20Electric%20Guitar%20Trans%20Black%20Sunburst_-49958845

So what went wrong? They went from being amazing value to absolutely horrible value. I would not pay 1699$ for this prestige S. It's way too much.

what happened is a few years.

while some mfgs have kept prices the same or lowered them, like fender or gibson, others chose to raise their prices, like ESP/LTD and Ibanez.

just is what it is.

plenty of good used prestige guitars out there though. have you checked the sam ash and gc used sites?

Nothing went wrong. Ibanez is going to keep raising prices until people stop buying. This is pretty typical in business.

Fair enough. It's a shame though, because I do not think they're worth the hefty pricetag.

Also I'm not in the market for an ibanez. I was just looking at current prices to decide a nice selling price for my RG1570.

Wow, that sucks. I agree, that price is too high. But I'd imagine that it has something to do with the introduction of the premium line as well. Before, if they wanted to raise their prices they'd be losing a ton of buyers in the $1000 price range.

I hope they go up and up. Make my ibby worth more

the yen went through the roof, that's what happened (or maybe more accurately, the dollar, pound sterling and euro went through the floor).

I saw in a couple of pictures that on Bucketheads Les Paul (only some pictures) that his neck pickup is painted in white. Can anyone explain to me why he would do this, and if there are any pros and cons.

The guy wears a KFC Bucket and a white mask during performances, and you're interested in the color of his pickup covers?

I think it's high time to sell mine I barely used it anyway, it's been sitting in it's case for more than 6 months...

But yeah the premium line is all meh to me. Previous "cheap" prestiges were bare essential guitars that focused on playabaility and build quality, the premium line on the other hand has flamed maple tops and burst finishes for about the same price. Doesn't really appeal me at all tbh.

I still think they're pretty good value, even at that price and needing new pups. I've been playing a few guitars lately that are more money than mine, but they were nowhere near as good in many ways IMO.

What happened is that the Federal Reserve Bank devalued the Federal Reserve Note (aka 'dollar,' but not really a U.S. dollar) which means it takes more FRNs to buy the same guitar that it took to by that guitar a few years back. Many items including food, healthcare, etc., cost more because of this devaluation of the 'dollar.'

yeah quantitive easing by definition devalues the existing currency.
