Like so many others, after learning the chords and notes, I became complacent and thought I knew it all. I know shit. I feel like I should know scales by heart and some music theory. If someone could direct me to a book to get, a post to read, or just flat out tell me basic things I should know I would be very grateful. Thanks!

Constructing and distinguishing keys within songs. You play around with any chords outside of the traditional major and minor? Play anything outside of natural minor? Are you only playing pentatonics? You need to be more descriptive.

This belongs in Musician Talk, not Guitar Techniques. Theory is not a technique.

A great place to start is www.musictheory.net.

Junior's usually at least a little terse, but he knows his stuff. I've always read his posts in a grouchy grandfather voice, a grouchy grandfather with a huge stiffy for alternate picking.
Besides that, he's right this time. As usual.
