I'm playing gigs with an Ibanez TSA15, which is essentially (to my ears) a Fender combo with a footswitchable tubescreamer in front. I also have a Green Rhino and a Xotic AC boost clone on my board. I'm able to do overdriven sounds well, but it still sounds like just that, a clean amp being overdriven. I want a pedal to give me a solid, amp-like distortion. Am I better off looking for an amp modeling pedal (like the Tech 21 Character series), or is there a good distortion that will deliver? Max budget is $200, the cheaper the better.

The catlinbread dirty little secret is an awesome Marshall in a box, I know joyo has an ok mesa in a box, if you have the knoledge you could build a Dr boogie.

I'd honestly fap to anything with a set of genitals as long as I find it aesthetically appealing.

The DLS had my attention, but I'm worried because it's labeled as an overdrive. I need to find demos of one plugged into a clean amp. I'm thinking the tone I want is a boosted JCM800 type sound (which might be hard to get in a pedal).

very under-rated pedal

Bogner's Uberschall pedal is just $50 over your budget and it is pretty awesome. You could pull off the sound that you want with a little tone chasing im sure. Also, Mesa Throttle Box? You cant go wrong with Tech 21 stuff though

I always hear very good things about the AMT pedals.
And they are pretty affordable as well.

I have a guv'nor clone from General Guitar Gadgets and it sounds great if little bass heavy. I'd recommend the Wilson Effects Sparkling Blue - http://wilsoneffects.com/SparklingBlue.html or the DLS.

As for the Boogie Tones, it depends weather you want the uber-saturated recto tones of wanted some thing more classic. The Dr. Boogie is really gainy and spiky.
Current Rig:

Eppy SG w/Swineheads, Marshall DSL 5c, Joyo Vintage OD, Joyo British Sound, Sounds Sounds Fuzz Face, GGG Guv'nor, Dr. Boogie Pedal, Crybaby in Red Sparkle, Digitech Hardwire Delay

The things I would do for a Les Paul...

Weehbo is a good call.

Saw a video demo of their JTM drive and it sounds pretty damn amazing.

Boosted JCM800 in a box? I'm going to go with the time tested MI Audio Crunchbox. Excellent marshall sounds, and very inexpensive! After that I would get the Suhr Riot if you had a bit more cash to burn, that one kicked the CB off my board a few years ago, but I could work with either one any day!

As far as a "Mesa" in a box, which one? Mark type distortion, or Rectifier? Tech 21 has excellent versions of both. The Wampler Triple Wreck is a great rectifier stomp box as well, I really enjoyed mine.

It's actually what they call a foundation pedal. I'd never heard the term til reading up on the Catalinbread stuff but it seems to be what people are going with now when talking about this type of pedal.

DLS mkiii sounds great. I'm thinking pretty hard about one. I got the RAH and it's pretty mindblowing.
