Well, it's cheap and good for what it is supposed to do. However, the sapphire has a pretty nice reputation also. I haven't tried the sapphire (i had a scarlett ), but all the people i talked with who had it were very pleased.

where you dissatisfied with the sapphire or are you just wondering if you could have had something better?

How did you conclude that everyone has a scarlett? There are lot of decent sound cards out there that will do the job pretty well. Focusrite offers great value for money but theyre not the end of it all. And if anything the saffire has a better rep on this forum, I think. I've heard people having issues with the scarlett but not the saffire.

I thought the Saffire was generally the Firewire equivalent of the Scarlett?

Essentially (Minus the Saffire 6 which is USB).

The reason there are so many is just due to the fact that for under $500, there isn't much better than Scarlett/Saffire line. They have the best sounding preamps & offer an amazing value compared to most in its brand. Also, its more than just here that recommends Focusrite. I've popped over to a few other boards & seen that its highly recommended because it works.

And if anything the saffire has a better rep on this forum, I think. I've heard people having issues with the scarlett but not the saffire.

To my knowledge, outside of a few driver issues, I've heard more problems with the 2i2 than the 2i4 (which the 2i4 is the one we always recommend).

Yeah the Scarlett 2i4 is the Saffire 6 in a very real way.

If you were about about 6 months ago before the 2i4 came out we'd be pushing the Saffire instead.

Have you recorded all 8 Preamps at the same time? I'm curious to see how well it does over USB. If it works well, I may buy one to go along with my Pro 40
