I was given a guitar today, I know nothing about it. All I know is that it's an old Charvel. I was wondering if anyone knew more about it, and if its worth having. I'll post pics in a separate post.

I can tell you it's made in Japan, from the late 80's and is most likely a Charvel Model 1 or 2 since they both had the single bridge humbucker and one knob. I'm leaning towards the model 2 because of the trem.

Mine came with an EMG 89 in it, so I can't comment on the stock Jackson pickup, but pull it out and see what pickup it is, if its a J50B, the pickup itself is worth more than the damn guitar lol.

The guy who owned it before me must have not taken care of it. The Kohler term bridge was sitting on top of the two screws that is supposed to hold it down, also missing a couple tuning knobs. Local guitar shop said he'd fix it and do a set up to my liking for $30 +price of strings. Is that a good deal?

Edit: also I believe pickup is j90c

I'd say that sounds pretty good for a setup plus repairs and string change. Nice guitar you got there man, especially getting it for free. Get the setup and play the hell out of it is what I would do.

Thats pretty good man, go for it. J90C is still a decent pickup. If you dont like it get a Dimarzio.

I didn't get that trem for a minute... thought it only had 3 tuning screws with the brass ones. Duh.
