After a few thorough listens to the entire album I think this may be the best power metal album of this year, hands down. Just effing terrific. Plus when 5 separate songs have "death" in the title you know it's a good metal album.

Another addition to the list. I haven't updated it in awhile, but I'll try to get on that sometime this week.

Every album that wasn't mentioned by me should be taken off the list. Great job otherwise. :thanks:

I only heard a handful of new albums (still haven't gotten around to the Sodom and Onslaught albums)

Megadeth was dull when I eventually caved in. Lets hope they haven't completely lost the plot (judgling by the last 2/3 albums that's mightili optimistic)

Procession - To Reap Heavens Apart
Autopsy - The Headless Ritual

These were a couple of stand-outs (although Carcass was decent too) from the few ones I listened to....but for me the best of the lot was, without a doubt - The White Goddess

In that order it can definitely happen.

I think it's about time the forum could do a best/worst picks of their metal albums for the year. Curious to see what people's picks were.

Let me start off by saying that UG as a collective has covered a massive amount of insane releases this year. So hats off. However, I'd like to add a few that were missed that I truly believe to be on there.

Cromlech - Ave Mortis (Epic Heavy/Doom a la Atlantean Kodex/Solstice but lower quality, still good though)

Acerus - The Unreachable (Traditional metal, awesome sound, very promising band)

Ravensire - We March Forward (Traditional metal, comment above applies here too)

Verminous - The Unholy Communion (Death Metal of the asskicking 90s variety)

Ranger - Knights of Darkness (Speed Metal, TAKING US BACK TO THE 80S BABY!)

Slough Feg - Lazer Enforcer (Power metal, these guys need no small description)

October 31 - Gone to the Devil (Traditional metal with BALLLSSSS)

This is all I can think of that you guys didn't cover. If you fukkers haven't heard any of these I suggest you remedy that! All very high quality releases.

How on Earth did I miss new Slough Feg??!! Getting on that.

Just a single! It's mouthwatering though. If you haven't heard any of the other bands that I listed I'd get on it!

I swear Acerus are one of the best traditional metal bands I have heard in a fukking LONNNNNGGGG time. I'll see if I can scrape up enough time and get a few threads going. Some of those bands definitely deserve some more credit than they get. Lots of promising releases this year.

This is like those top 10-20 albums lists that float around, but we don't count by number, only by quality. There was some amazing stuff this year, and it basically floated right past the mainstream and underground media without most of them noticing. Since it's great music, you should hear about it, but you'll have to click on over to our...

**** me but I thought Stratovarius' Nemesis was excellent. Maybe because of the slight pop junkie still living in me.

Out of interest what were people's favourite melodic death metal releases this year?
