This is literally no different than the thousand other sports themed trendy bands blowing up right now.

These bands aren't good. They're just the new phase of Warped Tour shit.

I have their first album. I like it alright.

A "tubescreamer" is a person paid by a guitarist to stand behind the amp and scream at the tubes. This terrifies the tubes into overdriving and delivers a thick, harmonic-rich tone.

They're still going to blow up. Blame Tumblr.

I rate them as potentially as good as Major League, cos Major League have actually decent stuff.

Oh, yeah I don't doubt that. And I can't really stand Major League.

But pandering to the lowest common denominator isn't an indication of quality. They're completely run of the mill.

if i heard that song without seeing the name, i would have assumed it was TSSF. this band, TSSF and Neck Deep sound so similar, it's uncanny.

this is neither bad nor good, i have no strong opinion.

Major League are pretty good.

Neck Deep are so bad, I have had arguments with them on twitter about how bad they are.

Well they were the ones who started it.

Oh this was ages ago back in like Jan-May time. I just posted an untagged tweet something along the lines of "i think neck deep are shit" and they kick off doing the whole thing of "well you're not recording your debut album so you have no right to judge us". Fairly immature stuff, they're all younger than me anyway but I'm not trying to make music my career.

And their guitarist told me he had never heard of Four Year Strong.

Also I don't get this whole emo revival thing, for example: "three dudes writing sad, feel good jams." How can you write "sad, feel good jams", isn't that a fallacy?

yeah, i guess there was no need for them to reply to that.

sad lyrics with feel good melodies/lyrics i guess would be the most straight forward way of putting it. Dowsing/Tigers Jaw/indiemo kinda thing.

idk if you're referencing Neck Deep there, but they are in no way related to emo revival. they would have gotten popular without this explosion of popular emo bands because their music is so far removed from it.

they're just doing the appeal-to-Man Overboard/TSSF/TWY/Fireworks-fans thing that's been going on for a while.

EDIT: also, i have to

State Champs is cool, probably the only generic pop punk band that I like. The thing that sets them apart is their singer, but they can actually write a good pop song instead of gluing a bunch of pop punk parts together. My band's first bass player played guitar for these guys a while back. We hang out with them when they come to montreal, they're cool.
