first off i just bought a new computer. nothing crazy $330 from tigerdirect. it has Windows 8, but ll windows 8 owners are entitled to a free swap to 8.1, which is supposedly much better and more backwards compatible.

i have an M-Audio fast track pro and an SM57, would that work at all? what wouldi need to do else wise.

what free/cheap daw's would be best? if any

do many things even work for 8?

the computer is still in the box,i am not good with computers so my dad is going to stop over this weekend and set it up with me.

any thoughts?

1. Should work.
2. Reaper.
3. I've been using W8 since a few months after it came out, I've yet to experience any software or hardware incompatibility.

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.

Yeah the interface should work fine. I think M-Audio has the W8 fast track drivers on their website you can download for free. The SM57 would absolutely work because it just plugs into the XLR port on the fast track.

As far as DAW, Reaper is my go-to. It's not free but you can use the trial for forever and it has a pretty easy learning curve.

Hope this helps!

As long as your drivers are up to date, you should have no trouble.

Btw, even though you CAN use the Reaper trial forever, doesn't mean you SHOULD. $60 is an absolute steal for a fully functional DAW.

I agree with MatrixClaw. Thats what i use i use reaper. Its free pretty much. You have the choice to buy it and if you do choose to buy its dirt cheap and works amazing. I also use the same interface as you so you should be all set.

Btw, even though you CAN use the Reaper trial forever, doesn't mean it's AT ALL LEGAL TO DO SO. $60 is an absolute steal for a fully functional DAW.

FTFY

The license agreement actually states that it is ILLEGAL to continue to use the free trial after it's expired, they just don't stop you because the accept that:

A) If people want to crack it they will anyway
B) Crippling the trail doesn't help anyone, especially if you have a busy life and can't use the trail extensively in the trail period.

Basically, if you can afford to buy it, but prioritise other things you don't need over and don't buy it but keep using it... it's a shitty thing to do.

I recently got my first recording mic which is a Shure SM57 and I bought a Blue Microphones Icicle XLR to USB Mic Converter/Mic Preamp. I use it with my Dell XPS 12 laptop which is running Windows 8 (8.1 as of yesterday but I haven't recorded with it yet) and I use Magix Recording Studio 2013.

I have an issue when I record that I can hear white noise and also I can hear myself in the background slamming on my strings in my recordings when the mic is pointed away from me and directed to my amp. Is there anyway that I can eliminate the white noise and have it only record directly in front and not background noise?

I have window 7. Can I use M-Audio fast track pro on my system. If you know anything about the compatibility of this software and window 7 then please let me know. I want to ask something about sound recording software. Do you know about good sound recording software for windows phone?
