I'm looking in the market for a quality guitar ranging from £400 to £1200,
being a fender enthusiast I love the single coil sound, Hendrix, Frusciante, Buddy Guy, Clapton etc and so single coils are a must; however I need a floyd rose and a humbucker for versatility.
I play a wide variation of music in my band ranging from blues and funk to hard rock and metal and so a versatile guitar is essential, I've become very fond of virtuoso guitarists such as Guthrie Govan and Joe satriani who both utilise a range of styles and use both humbuckers and single coils.
I know that Fender does hss with a floyd but I really hate the aesthetics, just can't stand the top on them
I play through a JVM 215C if that helps

Thanks

Hello, resident non-fender Stratphile here.

Check out the following:

G&L Legacy HBwith the DFV
Fender MIJ Contemporary Stratocaster
Fernandez Retro Rocket (There are some HSS and FR models on craiglist)
Charvel Model 3
Jackson Soloist

There are more, but I'm at work and can't really research. I'm sure Danny will pop in here with some more suggestions. Of the above, the G&L HB and DFV is my favorite. I used to have that Contemporary Strat, and it was likewise very solid.

Like a freakin' genie!

Besides those JustRooster suggested...

Fernandes currently is offering deep discounts on their direct-sales website, including a couple of their HSS Retrorockets:
http://www.fernandesguitarshop.com/retrorocket/78-retrorocket-pro.html

Fret-King offers a few HSS models in their four product tiers. I own a Blue Label Super 60HB that I imported from London to Texas, sight unseen, and was not disappointed.

Godin has the Session models, which are pretty damn good, but their availability overseas fluctuates wildly.

Dean Zelinsky Private Label has just started making the Tagliare available in a HSS configuration.

Further afield, you might consider a Reverend Double Agent, Rick Vito, or Gil Parris. No, they're not Strats, but they all have very broad tonal palates.

US Masters is a company much like Carvin, with a business offering a few select, customizable models with high-quality manufacturing. Their LeGrand and Vector are both avaialble as HSS guitars.

I think it's important to make the distinction that most G&Ls will have Khaler or DFV bridges on them, though, not straight OFR's. That said, they're absolutely fantastic bridges.

I just called them... they don't do factory tours. Bummer. I'll try again and see if I can't see if someone'll sneak me in if I 'plan on purchasing' sometime soon.
