Hey guys, I'm new here and I need some help deciding which analog delay I should get.
My two considerations (because of budget) are the EHX Memory Toy and Visual Sounds Axle Grease delay.
I like both of these pedals, it seems that you get pretty good bang for your buck.
They both self-oscillate as well, which is something that I found a must for making all those cool noises
I haven't heard anything bad about the Axle Grease but I've heard that the Memory Toy has an unwanted volume boost? I've also heard the chorus from the mod switch isn't too great but that it can be fixed by adjusting the trimpot.
I'm just thinking, would it be better for me to avoid these imperfections or is it worth adjusting the pedal?
If anyone could clarify about the boost etc. I would be really grateful to hear your opinions
Thanks guys!

The MXR Carbon Copy is the best small (non-tap) analog delay I've heard.

I'm sure the Visual Sound is good, though I'm not really familiar with that pedal, they make good stuff.

I've heard nothing but bad things about the Memory Toy. I'd stay away.
Spin 'round carousel when your horse isn't screwed in.

Oh, that's a damn shame :/
I always thought EHX were pretty consistent with their products.
What have you heard that's so bad, just out of curiosity?

Memory Toy is alright, but it's not great. If you can find a used one for dirt cheap I'd say go for it but if you're going to buy new there are better options. The Memory Boy, for example, is better, but once again isn't the greatest ever.

But yeah, I would go for either the Carbon Copy or the Malekko 616 if you can find one.

Man, the Malekko sounds sweet! I can't afford that though, I'm on a pretty low budget.
That's why I was looking at the Axle Grease from Visual Sounds, it's pretty affordable and sounds nice. I was just wondering if anybody had any better pedals in mind for a similar price

I had one. I bought it for like $100 used. If you wanna go that route that might be your best option.

Otherwise, a Memory Toy brand new is $112, either a CC or a 616 is about $150. It's worth saving up the extra 40 bucks.

It's decided - This one has been ordered and will be here in a couple of days!
Thanks for the help and suggestions guys

Cool. How much did you get it for?

Edit- I like when he was using the looper. Sounded very Porcupine Tree-ish.

I got it from gear4music for £73, 5 year warranty and standard delivery rounded it up to £82.50! Bargain!
In dollars I guess it would be roughly around $140?
It should be here tomorrow (hopefully) I'll let you know how it sounds

Edit - The looping was really cool, I have to agree. I can't wait to try out the oscillation!
I'm also gonna see how it stands up as a compression unit on its own with all the delay turned down. Either that or a doubling effect with post-compression :P

i owned the memory toy. yes it has a volume boost. no i would not recommend it.

i wouldnt recommend either. try a used carbon copy. solid suggestion. go on PGS and prymaxe vintage and try searchin in yourp rice range and picking a few others aside from the EHX and garagetone.

http://www.prymaxevintage.com/delay/?sort=priceasc&page=1

search by price. delays are the most expensive pedals as a whole. dont cheap out. even an EHX is about 100 bones and personally, i would say you will most likely be unhappy or can find something in the price range that is better.

used BOSS dd-3 is a solid cheap delay option.

i think 150 is normal for a delay, under 200 is a solid choice, 200+ us upper tier, and 250+ is boutique for delays. thats just me.

if i really couldnt go up in budget, i personally would be looking hard at this

as well as a few others.
