I've been browsing the forum and seen a few threads such as "best metal guitar under $1000" but I wanted to see if you guys could provide with some advice based on a few specific requirements.

Right now I want a guitar that's great for metal, and if possible also capable of a decent powerful solo tone as well (i'm not sure if EMG's or EMG based pups can do this). I'm thinking active pickups might be necessary as some people have mentioned that the RG321EX can be relatively weak in that sense. I also want something with a simple fixed bridge as I currently have an ibanez artcore with a floating bridge and i'm pretty over the intonation process and changing strings. Lastly, I want a neck that's really built for speed - I really love Ibanez RG necks in general and at this point i've been leaning towards a few RGs.

I was wondering if you guys have any suggestions for guitars that might meet this criteria under $1000 (AUD). So far i've considered a few Ibanez RG's (i'm still open to other models), ESPs and Schecter guitars.

6 strings, not overly fussed with colour but prefer black or any darker colours like brown, mahogany or even sunburst. As for shape, i'm open once again as long as it's not a Les Paul style shape or V, explorer etc. I like the Ibanez RG and S shapes. I play stuff from bands like Dream Theater, Pantera, Black Label Society, Symphony X and August Burns Red.

Yeah, you'll definitely want the superstrat shape then.

Try the Iron Labels if your budget is that high for an Ibby.

The Hellraiser C-1 might be good too:

The LTD H-1001FM is the last of the "Big 3" in shredders:

These are all direct competitors of each other. Personally, I'd take the Ibby too. The Gibraltar bridge has a lot of sustain.

Note on the Fernandes models- those are all from the limited quantity on clearance from Fernandes directly. There are other colors for the Elite and other designs for the SHIN, but only from other retailers, where they're being sold for $1100-1300.
