Found a 5 banger Ibanez on my local CL for $175. Even though I just started playing bass a week ago I felt it was too good of a deal to pass up. After a few texts it was mine.

When I picked it up I immediately noticed a few issues. The guitar was horribly dirty. I felt needed condoms on my fingers to touch it. There were a few dings on the edge of the fretboard, and there was a loose pot. However, it played nice and smooth and the action was set really nice IMO.

So I brought it home to start cleaning. Here are some pics that show how dirty it was. Notice how bad the strings are and all the gunk on the fretboard and the bridge.

I polished up the body with a little bit of rubbing alcohol. I wouldn't just do that with any guitar though. This being what it is I felt fine with that. It got all kinds of grunge off the guitar. Used some steel wool and the gunk started coming away and the frets got some good polish to them. Went into the controls and tightened up that pot and replaced the 9v battery. I got a kick out of the pups catching all the steel wool fibers for me.

Used some of this stuff to condition the fretboard. I picked it up on a whim today while I was buying some new strings for it. We'll see how well it works over time, but right now the fret board feels good. I don't know how much of a difference it really makes though. I think it only cost $7, so it wasn't all that much and worth a try on what is really an experiment guitar anyway.

Here is a finished shot with my 4 string. The idea was to find out which played better and sell the other one. Without a doubt the 4 stringer that I bought last week is going to be posted on my local CL tonight. The 5 plays really well and has a good setup, so it stays.

Well, back to practicing "Welcome to the Jungle."

I'm an idiot and I accidentally clicked the "Remove all subscriptions" button. If it seems like I'm ignoring you, I'm not, I'm just no longer subscribed to the thread. If you quote me or do the @user thing at me, hopefully it'll notify me through my notifications and I'll get back to you.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Presumably because the CCF (Combined Corksniffing Forces) of MLP and Gibson forums would rise up against them, plunging the land into war.

Hnbd all the same, I love the SR series.

I know man, those strings were disgusting. After touching them I felt like I needed to get a tetanus shot and some antibiotics.

HNBD. That bass looks like my old SR800s cousin. Great basses, I regret selling mine at times!

But the gunk keeps the funk!

And it might keep the herpes too.
