So after a few weeks of playing several guitars at Guitar Center, I finally decided on one I really liked. It was supposed to be back ordered for the next two weeks, but it showed up on my door step yesterday

Well Mr. "Barre Chords Yikes", what exactly is it? It looks like a Martin headstock, but you really should have included the make and model, just so we'd be sure.

It's right handed, so forgive me a small amount of indifference...

This doesn't mean I don't want to know.

It's a Martin Custom D Classic. Sitka Spruce top, mahogony back and sides.

The action on this thing is SO much better than my Ovation. It just plays like butter lol. No more buzzing, either =P

Give us a good NGD breakdown! Playability, tone, action, etc.
But we little know until tried how much of the uncontrollable there is in us, urging across glaciers and torrents, and up dangerous heights, let the judgment forbid as it may.

It looks like C.F.Martin Co. has finally given in and drank the "CNC Kool-Aid".

$900.00 and made here in the USA? Carvin has been turning out affordable guitars that look and play spectacularly for decades using this tech. I guess the luthiers guild fought them tooth and nail.

(I just making assumptions here folks. Help me out if you know more about it).

Why is a Martin departure from "the luthier's guild" (guild of american luthiers?) any particular surprise?

As requested, more pics:

As for the sound, it totally puts my Ovation to shame. I've had my Ovation for about 12 years now, so I'll keep it for sentimental reasons. Compared to the Martin, though, the Ovation cannot even compete when it comes to sound quality. The highs are high and the lows are low. It's tone is a little deeper and definitely much richer than the Ovation. Not to mention how smooth and easy this thing is to play! It's surprisingly loud for how light it is, too.

Nice, I have the same guitar. I love it, great sound and great feel. My only qualm is that now that I have more experience, I know that I prefer the 000 shape to the dreadnought shape. Yeah, I was young and foolish, but I'm still very happy with the choices I've made as a customer of guitar gear.

I think you're looking at a special price or something, because I have the same guitar and it cost me $1,100 after taxes.

Yeah, Musicians friend has a special for $899. Guitar Center's priced at $999, so that might be the normal price.

Well, $900.00 is what I came up with @ Musician's Friend. The page says, "on sale today".

If you want to let me be right, click this link now: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/martin-custom-d-classic-mahogany-dreadnought-acoustic-guitar

If you want to be right, click after midnight, I suppose.

If you want a backup to the one you already have for $899.95, call M'sF now.

It wasn't a matter of being right, I just thought it might have made a difference because it seemed like the price was important to your point.

Even the price you paid fits in to my observations. Martin has something available for under a couple grand, American made...

Either way, for a guitar under $1000 this thing is blowing me away. I'm definitely impressed.

on the one hand, congrats on your new guitar

on the other hand, any guitar can be set up for around $50 by a qualified luthier.... just sayin'...
