Hey friends, I really like stuff like Further Seems Forever - "Pictures Of Shorelines" or The Get Up Kids - "Holiday". Can anybody recommend anything with pure, tormented vocals like those, and also similar instrumentals?

Thanks

Im sorry, I just don't see how you could argue that hardcore isn't metal. That just seems arrogant to me.

Yes, its its own kind of metal, but its still metal.

Hi everyone! I'm new to the Punk sub forum. I've mostly been on the hardcore forum. I listen to a lot of hardcore and metalcore like Converge and Shai Hulud. Recently I've been listening to Iron Chic after seeing them play here about a year ago with Low Culture (I think) at some dudes house. (He owns his own independent label). ANYWAYS I'm really starting to get into a lot of punk styles and I really want to explore that side of my musical taste. So my first question is which of the bands do I listen to do YOU all think are closest to a punk style or have punk styles in them? My second question is what are some similar bands to stuff like Iron Chic and NOFX?

These are the bands I listen to
Beloved (US)
Between The Buried And Me
Botch
Cave In
The Chariot
Circa Survive
Coalesce
Codeseven
Converge
Deftones
The Dillinger Escape Plan
Earth Crisis
Elliott
The End
Fear Before
Fordirelifesake
Glassjaw
Hopesfall

Senses Fail
Shai Hulud

I think I was looking for more emo/ melodic hardcore bands like Lifetime and early Saves The Day. But I have Iron Chic and NOFX listed
#771
Hardcore influenced emo? Saves The Day?

Nononono.

Try:

Jawbreaker - 24 Hour Revenge Therapy
Circle Takes The Square - As The Roots Undo
Barrow - Being Without

Infact just listen to Skramz.

Nooooooooo you're not getting it. It's MELODIC HARDCORE. Like old Lifetime. It's not necessarily "hardcore" per say. I mean it is but its hard explaining it. Just listen to Saves The Day's first album Can't Slow Down or Lifetime's album Hello Bastards. It's not emo. It's melodic hardcore
#773
This is closer to punk than anything.

If you want Emo influenced this you're basically talking about Fall Out Boy.

i honestly feel like the most helpful thing that could be done with the thread would be to just do it over. then list every band in hardcore and punk known to man in the OP and just let people pick out what they like or whatever from said list.
#775
Pretty sure no one in the hardcore forum really listens to hardcore.

It's just where all the people who aren't dickish enough to post in the Metal forum go.

i don't listen to metal and i listen to hardcore. that's why i post here and read threads here. is that weird?
#777
I listen to hardcore too. Verse, Minor Threat, Bane, With Honor, 7 Seconds, Have Heart, and then metallic hardcore: Strongarm, Shai Hulud, Converge, Taken, Poison The Well, Skycamefalling, With Resistance. I just recently starting getting into more Skramz bands

After hearing that horrid Anti-flag song in the chat thread I realized something... I haven't heard good punk in a while. More specifically hardcore punk. Or just straight hardcore.

List me hardcore/hardcore punk bands. Also discuss any distinguishing differences between the two in the present system.

I prefer hi-fi recordings and not necessarily the "raw" feel of garage band recordings. Remember I am coming from Melodic Death and tr00 metalcore here. I like the polished feel.

Problem is, I can't think of many Hardcore bands that actually have a polished feel. That's sort of the part of Hardcore production style; it's raw. You're not going to find many Hardcore bands with slick production a la Melodic Death records.

check out Loose Ends (from NJ). good quality recordings for a smaller band. sound like Gorilla Biscuits. not sure if they're even doing anything anymore, but i loved seeing them live.

Cut Loose EP was great. never really listened to the one they released last year yet.

i mean, what kind of stuff do you know of already? i'm assuming you're aware of the old 80's hardcore/hardcore punk.

i don't really distinguish many differences with the shit i listen to anymore. i pretty much say i listen to punk. if there's lots of "hardcore" shouting and heavier guitars, i call it hardcore punk.

i'm probably the worst person for recommendations right now because i've been in the dark on current punk/hardcore shit for a few years and i've pretty much been listening exclusively to ALL, Descendents, Jawbreaker, The Ergs, and Lagwagon for a few months.

This is what I have always kinda thought of when I think Hi-fi Hardcore. I may be way off but that is likely ignorance on my part of hardcore in general.

Joined a band recently, looking for recommendations of hardcore like Bane and Champion. Preferably bands with lyrics that don't make me feel like shit for smoking pot.
I haven't been on this site since I was like 16. I'm 23 now. Kill me.

who is the ultimate emo band, i'm talking REALLY dark?
I recommend Jamey Blaze, during Sexycrazyperson EP > Duran's minus Zebra Mountain mostly.
here's a link: jameyblaze.bandcamp.com
the reason I posted him here is his style is rock/emo mostly, but Sexycrazyperson EP is electronic
