Cormorant (they're better than Possessed! Just ask Jeff Becerra!)

Okay, upon streaming the album, I'm only on the second track and I know that I want to order this album and Metazoa too now. Great job guys!

Edit: That ending solo for "Unearthly Dreaming." Holy SHIT!!!

What a change of heart from a page ago...

But really, I'm not surprised. Dwellings is incredible. Slowly but surely inching its way towards being my top release of the year.

It's definitely a grower. I've come to love "Hole in the Sky," and "Sky Burial" tremendously. Plus Metazoa is worth it for the artwork alone!

How does the new album sound? I also was looking at the last page and wanted to ask, what is Keth's avatar of?
#246
I only listened to it once, but it sounded great, and I'm normally not a guy that likes albums on a first listen. The preorder hoodie package is amazing, by the way.

It's the cover from Emergent, an album by Gordian Knot. If prog rock/metal is your thing, you should check it out. If prog rock/metal isn't your thing, you should check it out.

Metazoa was odd for me to get into. I tried starting the album and going from start to finish, but I just couldn't listen to the songs that way. Then, I decided to try to listen to it backwards and now I love it. The Crossing and Hanging Gardens are what really did it for me, though.

^That stuff is amazing, man. Muttersprache is beautiful.

New album is amazing. Listen to it. Now.

Not surprising. Metazoa picks up steam as it goes. From track 5 is really when it starts getting good.

And everything on Dwellings blows literally, everything on Metazoa, out of the water.

Got my bundle last week. Dwellings is really. ****ing. good. Pretty much everything I hoped it would be. And man, Unearthly Dreamings is so epic

I've slit the throats of clergymen and governors
Those bloated swine...
May their screams unhinge a thankless crown

Comorant are touring the eastern part of the US with Primordial and While Heaven Wept in September. Dates are as follows:

9/7 - Reggie's - Chicago, IL
9/8 - Beachland Ballroom - Cleveland, OH
9/9 - Water Street Music Hall - Rochester, NY
9/10 - Saint Vitus Bar - Brooklyn, NY
9/11 - Kung Fu Necktie - Philadelphia, PA
9/12 - Empire - West Springfield, VA
9/13 - Tremont Music Hall - Charlotte, NC (with VEKTOR)

I'm seriously considering driving down for the Brooklyn date.

The shirts are nice, too.

The shirts are very comfortable. If I wore a hoodies I would have gotten one of them too.

Does anyone else get random goodies with their purchases? I've got Arthur's signature I never had to ask for and a sticker so far.

So, what made Arthur leave the band?

Haven't listened to them in a while, but Cormorant are being considered for a visit up to Canada from what I hear. I definitely would have liked to buy that guy a beer.
#257
I think it came down to him having a really consistent, really good, well-paying job at a video game studio. Dont think he could do that AND be in the band, so he chose to do that, what with having a wife and stuff now.

Shame though, I agree. I'd definitely have liked to buy the dude a beer if they ever made it out to Denver/Boulder.

Nope, it's quite legit.

But according to Facebook they have a new album coming, so presumably they've found his replacement and just haven't announced it yet.
#260
I'm sure I'll enjoy it but I saw Arthur as a large part of what made Cormorant Cormorant. It'll be weird.

^Yeah I had no idea Arthur left until I read the posts on the previous page. It's a shame he left, I think he was definitely an essential part of Cormorant. I will still listen to their new album with high hopes, but I am sadden by his departure.

News and stuff, they got a new bassist who I've never heard (Marcus Luscombe) and they're working on their new album.

All of their old albums are available on bandcamp to listen for free. Frankly, the best news is that Justin Weis is mixing their new album.
#263
Agreed. Dwellings sounds great and so does everything else Weis touches.

I have no idea who Luscombe is or what he's been involved in but this is exciting nonetheless.
#266
meh is my first reaction

Will give it another shot though

My copy of the album came already.

It's fantastic. Not as good as Dwellings, but I consider that album to be a masterpiece. It's easily on par with Metazoa though.
#270
That's good news. I might order a copy this week. That album art is just so damn sexy.

new album is good, not as consistent as dwellings but still one of my favourite releases this year

daughter of void, the pythia, and broken circle are all 10/10 up there with their other great stuff imo
#272
The Pythia is actually my least favorite from this album. And it's not close. It kinda gets better as it goes though, the last few songs are quite good.

Good album though, if not great. I think I must have overlistened Dwellings though because I'm just not that interested in Cormorant's style anymore.
