http://www.ibtimes.com/arizona-birth-control-bill-allows-employers-fire-women-pill-based-religious-beliefs-425530

Basically, your employer can fire you if you take the pill to prevent pregnancy. Good luck having a career when you're pregnant all the time, ladies.

"The bill would force employees to show their employers their medical records and also grant employers the right to deny health insurance coverage, forcing women to pay full price for their prescriptions."

It's hard to believe this got past HIPAA regulation, and if something like this gets done at a national level I hope we see a lot of flaming bras.

"Government should not be telling the organizations or mom-and-pop employers to do something against their moral beliefs," Republican Majority Whip Debbie Lesko, R-Glendale, who sponsors the bill, told the State Press. "I believe we live in America. We don't live in the Soviet Union."

Seriously? Fucking seriously Debbie Lesko, Republican Majority Whip representing Glendale?

Whats next, employees with type 2 diabetes have to show their employers a detailed log of their diet?

I'm about to hear all about this on Tumblr tonight.

I don't know what's more frustrating. That these people want to beat women with a bible until they're bound by law to remain in the kitchen, or that they also claim to be for small government.

Arizona = West Florida

Interesting how the Republicans demand Rights and Freedom of Religion for the employer but seem quite content to deny any Rights or Freedom of Religion to the employee.

WTF Arizona.

I don't understand how or why states keep resisting Obama's birth control mandate. Also it just seems like Arizona is slowly turning into it's own fascist Republic at this point. We should let them secede and then they can permaban all the Hispanics they want.

1. Because it is Obama and their party has done absolutely nothing but the opposite of whatever he does for going on 4 years now.
2. Because Christianity, more specifically Catholicism, is a big thing here.
3. Because they can get away with it given the current political climate.

And that is horrible, they should just simply stop voting stupid people into offices.

Arizona is ****ed up. But my State is voting on whether or not Obama will even be on the ballot. Thats right, whether or not THE CURRENT PRESIDENT will be on the ballot for THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION, Basically the logic is that Obama's dad is a Kenyan citizen, Kenya claims all children of Kenyan citizens as Kenyan citizens, so Obama is a Kenyan citizen and can't be a US citizen without first renouncing Kenyan citizenship. Its bullshit lawyer jargon, Good ole Kansas.

Because it causes the employer to pay for it's employees birth control. In my experience Sex and work don't mix well.

I am going to start off by saying that any business that fires someone for this reason is idiotic, and that in reality this law will hardly actually be used, because outside of political rhetoric and the most fundamental of fundamentalists, almost no one actually cares that much about who uses birth control.

That said, I think that businesses should have the right to fire employees for this reason, or, for that matter, any other stupid, bigoted reason.

When you employ someone, what are you really doing? You are trading your money for their labor. If, for whatever reason, you don't want to make this trade, you should not be forced to as doing otherwise would violate your freedom and property rights. So, if you don't want to hire someone because of their race, sexual orientation, or preference for the Patriots, then a government really should not override and invalidate your property rights by forcing you to do so.

Two things to take note of. First, this right really only applies to individual's hiring choices, and certainly not a government's. Corporations are sort of a grey area since in some ways they act and are treated as individuals, but their "property" is diffusely spread among many people. However, large businesses discriminating in such a manner probably isn't much of a problem as a result of the next point.

In today's economy in which markets are so much more global and encompassing than ever before, any business that discriminated on any real scale would quickly be driven out of business by competition. By refusing to hire perfectly capable candidates, they are shrinking their own labor pool, which should drive prices up, while passing up qualified employees that their competition can employ. Thus, they would face higher costs and likely a smaller market, meaning they wouldn't stand a chance. So, such discrimination wouldn't persist in the long run anyway.

It's stupid from the moral standpoint, but when you consider the fact that the employer will have to pay for the employee's birth control, I can see their point. Still, I think it's stupid... unless birth control costs an ungodly amount.
