I like the simpler ones. Over the top houses can suck a chode.

The quaint ones give me a bubbly nostalgic feeling :3

Anyways, I like visiting them and talking my little bro to see the lights, but I would probably be really annoyed if I lived right next to one or something.

I don't hate them. I just find them corny and ugly as ****.

Yeah, the ones where the entire house is flashing bright neon are ugly. So are those big inflatable Santas.

But if it's classily done up it's nice.

I think houses with a few lights which have some thought put into the arrangement are pretty good. But the ones you see on the news where someone has just tacked as much shit as possible onto their house/fence/lawn just looks awful.

Never do it myself, but I do enjoy seeing some of the well done houses. They're cool, just not something I participate in.

At the time of writing, just 8 people have taken part in the poll, you're basing an opinion on the whole of UG on just 8 people?
#12
Ok, good point. I just looked at the bars lol.

Now the poll has shifted and proven me wrong.

Love them. I actually work as a delivery driver for a pizza place. If I drive by a house with lights, I slow down and look at them. :3

So houses covered in Christmas lights could actualy be a contributing factor towards my pizza being cold?

Well one of them is photoshopped. Or both.
Or maybe one is a new year or something?

EDIT: Probably just a couple days later. They probably asked (to put it far nicer than I'm sure it was) that they take the profanity, so they replaced it with "twat."

On the other hand, they probably cut down on time straining to read poorly placed address signs.

Total waste of electricity, but I don't mind if it's just a couple of simple lights or something.

People don't really do Xmas lights here, but they make up for it with Diwali. I don't think India can produce enough electricity for two events.

Bah!

OK, so after spending 5 minutes investigating, I can conclude that the 'ditto' one is the original, because there are several different pictures of that taken from different angles available on the net, but the 'c*nt' and 'tw*t' ones were photoshopped from the 'ditto' one that I provided because they are viewed from the exact same angle.
#23
I like em, but I'm not a big fan of the inflatables. But I think that houses should have some sort of lights all year round.

Or maybe all three were up at the same time so all they had to do was switch which string of lights was plugged in. Have "ditto" up earlier, and switch it up later in the night.

Personaly, I'm not too keen on the whole 'let's completely cover our house in lights' thing, but some of the things people do with lights can be entertaining.

I've never seen them, I just sort of believe that they're out there looking pretty.

There was a house in my neighbourhood that always had tons of christmas lights. Last year the husband was arrested for murdering his wife. Overcompensating happiness.

I suppose it's still a very European and American thing. Christmas lights actualy originated in the upper-class homes in 18th-century Germany, where trees were decorated with candles. The tradition of the illuminated Christmas tree then became established in the United Kingdom during Queen Victoria's reign, brought to the UK by her husband Prince Albert who was German and then spread to North America and Australia via emigration.

The first known electrically illuminated Christmas tree was the creation of Edward H. Johnson, an associate of inventor Thomas Edison, in America, and the tradition of extending this form of tree decoration to covering entire houses in Christmas lights seems to have started in America where, in San Diego in 1904 and Appleton, WI in 1909, and New York City in 1912 were the first recorded instances of the use of Christmas lights outside, and the tradition has grown and spread to other countries from there.

There's one on my way to work that plays very loud xmas music ALL NIGHT. I ride past it at 1030pm, and again at 7am. It's always on. **** those people. I mean lights are fine, as long as they don't outshine the sun and annoy neighbors, but music? You can just close your curtains to sounds.

I quite like them. It's something a bit different and some of the ones i've seen do it for charity and have a little charity bucket out the front.

Bit of fun really.
