Hey guys I have an arpeggiated chord progression and the last chord holds for two more beats. So if I was in 4/4 I can add a tie to it on a small 2/4 bar or is it 6/4?
If it's 6/4 how do I notate it?

e:-------0
B:-------0
G:----0---
D:--4-----
A:5-------
E:---------

The e & B strings are what last the added two beats, the other notes are eight notes.

Thanks
your call, it doesn't really matter. i'd probably add it as 2/4, particularly if there was a repeat so i could use it as the pickup
modes are a social construct
I typically extend the bar, but it's a judgment call.
I don't know what music theory is.

Am I reading this wrong? It looks like even with the added two beats, if the other notes are eighths then you've still only got four beats, which doesn't require an added measure at all.

Ok, umm 4/4 has 4 and I needed two more meaning:
4/4+2= one 6/4 or one 4/4+ one 2/4

he's saying if the first 3 notes are eighth notes and the last 2 are quarter notes, you're still only using 3 and a half beats. but we can't see the rest of the measure, so

So 2/4 it goes, thanks

The measure is that, it's just that the open strings ring for 4 beats

So it's the same thing, thanks

OK, that's not what you said originally.

Anyway, I think how you notate it would depend on how it fit into the rest of the piece. I'd personally find it annoying changing time signatures every other bar, but I wouldn't do it in 6/8 unless the entire composition was that way. That's just personal preference, though.
