SO, I've decided to get my next Gibson Les Paul, I liked the studio well enough.

I saw a pretty good deal on eBay, It was a 2014 Gibson Les Paul Standard in Ocean Water Perimeter. The guitar came "stripped" absolutely nothing as far as hardware, just the back plates and truss cover. Luckily with a lot of help from a Guitar Center employee I met through an EMG transaction, I had the opportunity to get all the hardware I needed at under half the price I normally would have paid. This was the chance to get a paul at a great price exactly customized to the specs I wanted and in the color I've DREAMED of! So I mulled it over and decided to get her!

Here is when she arrived

Got the switch wired and installed. NO trim ring for me.

Duncan JB and Jazz installed in the Gibson rings, black/creme on creme

A little dusty after putting in the Gibson Grover Lockers

Gibson Nashville Tune-o-Matic installed along with the tailpiece (studs only here since it slides off haha)

After that I had a wait for my new CTS 500k long posts but they finally came Friday and I got them wired in. Then came my abalone capped dome knobs on Saturday. I got the strap locks and the "Les Paul Custom" Truss cover on (although I might go to one that says "standard") and finished her on Saturday night!

Next Sunday morning....

I am in LOVE...the neck is far slimmer than my studio and overall the guitar is a whole lot lighter. I can't stop staring at the maple top. This my first higher end flamed maple topped guitar. She sounds as good as she looks, I definitely have a new favorite.

I haven't gotten to try her out live yet, JUST missed getting her done before the show we played Friday. I think I'm officially Les Paul addicted haha.

I will divulge that it is a figure above $1500 and below $2000 haha, considering they'll run you $2699 new I'm happy with what I paid, especially for a brand new guitar set to my exact specs. She still has that new Les Paul smell

Is that price fully loaded or just for the stripped body?

The price range I gave for what I paid is for as she sits now. The $2699 is the price fully loaded from sweetwater, musiciansfriend or wherever you may purchase from.

Now that's going a wayyys back haha. The Bears actually did a lot better than I expected them to do this year (being from Chicago, although I may be a "cheddar head" at heart I still never miss a Bear game) They've got quite a player in Alshon Jeffery, one I can definitely say I'm a bit jealous of haha. I think they'll be giving the Pack a good run next year.

Alshon had a great year, i'm glad he's going to the pro bowl. he deserves it.

as much as tressman tried to build up our lines before the season and whatnot, injuries killed us again this year. and so long as rogers is healthy we won't really have a chance unless we're 100%.

that pendulum is due to swing back in our favor at some point before i die! i hope.

Yep the Pack had a similar fate this year, seems they can't stay healthy any year, heck even the superbowl year they had like 15 players out.

Man you guys are pushy haha.

eBay -

Body + Neck + Truss Cover/Backplate - $1400

Gibson Bridge and Tailpiece - $50 (same seller as guitar)

Knobs - $15

CTS Pots -$23

Gibson Truss Cover (used "like new") - $5

Guitar Center-

SD JB + Jazz - $108 after tax

Pickup rings, switch, Grover tuners, Jack plate, Jack (all Gibson Branded) - $65 after tax

My own supply -

Straplocks - Free, I had them off an old guitar I sold.

Wiring - Free, had the supplies and I know what I'm doing.

Total - $1666 or about a grand under retail (this link is the exact model it was). The major thing I lose out on though is it not coming with a case. But Seeing as I already have 2 other pauls it shouldn't be hard finding one that fits haha.

Everything listed is brand new (minus the truss cover and strap buttons.)

Sure is nice knowing a GC employee haha. He worked out a deal with me and basically got me the employee discount in exchange for me giving him a good price on the EMG's I was selling.

that's not bad for a LP. over 10 starts to get annoying but 9.5 is still decent.

if you lost the nashville for a faber abr1 and a super lightweight tailpiece that'd probably put it between 9 and 9.5 if it bothers you over time.

still a killer lp though.

That's a pretty sweet deal, iv thought about doing partscasters before but never thought that people would be selling stripped down Les Paul bodies for Les Parts. Now I think I'm going to pick up an SG body.

That's they way they do it now for the 2014 models

http://www2.gibson.com/News-Lifestyle/Features/en-us/Gibson-s-2014-New-Model-Year-Enhanced-Playability.aspx

"On recent models, the frets stopped short of the neck binding; 2014 New Model Year Gibsons feature frets which reach over the edges of the binding to provide a smoother playing surface, especially if you find yourself in the midst of an especially impassioned vibrato workout on the high E string."
