Overused phrases in music. The ones I can think of are:

Rhyming "down" with "around"

Rhyming "Walk" with "Talk"

"In the club"

"Woke up in the morning"

"I want ___" followed by "I need ___"

"Shivers down my spine"

Rhyming "Fire" with "Desire"

"17/18 , You know what I mean"

"Rhyming "High" with "Fly"

And of course, rhyming a word with the same word.

Any I'm missing?

Anything "me" centric really.

Most anything in a Nickelback song.

If you took the word "baby," out of every song ever, there would be a lot of short, empty spaces in songs.

For Black Metal, of which i listen to a fair amount, 'Satan' either in lyrics or song titles gets very boring

Hollywood by Puddle of Mudd. Can't think of any others that use it a lot though.

It's strange how many bands use 'natural fact'.

I get irritated with:

"feels so real...", "this pain is just too real..." anything 'real' that ends the sentence.

Maybe not a cliche lyric, but when people stretch out words over 4 or 5 beats/measures when singing. I mean, you can't find a longer more appropriate word? Feels lazy to me.

It's not what you think
just one more little bet
just another cigarette
just one more drink

so lend me just a little more
you know cancer can't catch me
let's have another drink or three
don't be a bore

But oh, don't I know
I'm just digging my own grave
Someone else please save myself from me
Oh lord I know
I'm just digging my own grave
Can someone save myself from me

Any line of a song that ends in the word "away." (Usually it's sung "awaaaaaaaaay").

Nickelcrack, Puddle of Spunk, Breaking Benjamin, and all of their other clone bands are notorious for this. Literally, it's in every song in that genre.

"water to wine"

on a related note, song titles.

a lot of the rock/glam bands I used to listen to...I guess they run out of material so u often have a song called "bad reputation" lol

I got a bad reputation...im a bad bad boy etc

I give Yngwie credit, at least he was out for like 15 years before he resorted to it

---------------

Then the sort of Don Dokken types it was always the words: looking back, yesterday, dreams, shadows. Me and my buddy used to joke about it a lot. Id tell him that I have an album written. Then I say "well not really an album but I have the titles ready"

1. Looking back at yesterdays dreams

2. The shadow of yesterdays dreams

3. In the shadows of your love

4. Bad boy

5. guilty

6. Wild and Free

7. Bad Reputation

8. Dreaming of yesterdays love

9. Tear it up

10. Drinking with the devil

The word "soul" seems to be commonly used in many metal genres. Did someone already mention "cry" paired with "die"?
