Look, I think the greatest musicians are the ones that multi task.
Those who play guitar/bass and sing, that's the coolest for me.

Trio's require someone like that, usually.

What are your favorites?

I think the Police and Cream were the best trios ever.

To a place where we both know,
And dont worry, I'll drive real slow,

No one mentons the Hendrix Experience or the Band of Gypsies, but we do get to hear about John Butler and John Mayer, jeez guys whats going on with you all? Mitch Mitchell was as kick ass drummer, and easily imho one of the top 5, his drums often perfectly accompained Jimi's guitar lines. Also Doube trouble with SRV were a great Trio, or what about Rush as stevoreon said?

Lawrence Arms.

Dispatch is a real good trio, of course along with all those mentioned before. I figured I'd bring something fresh to the table.

Can't believe no-one's said Dinosaur Jr yet. Or Silverchair. Along with them, Nirvana and Cream.

I can. Without Hendrix = no Butler.
Also, Hendrix is a helluva lot more listenable than Butler.

I see what you mean by John Butler owing a lot to Jimi Hendrix as a musician, but I don't see how he's less listenable.

meh, i just think that capoing your guitar then making it look extremely complicated (when 90% of the time it isnt) is the way to do things. His stuff can be played without all that upside down tapping malark and whatnot, I've seen it done.

It still sounds beautiful though. As a matter of fact almost anything in Open C sounds really nice.

I agree with this statement.

Just because a musician comes after his/her influence does not mean s/he cannot eclipse said influence.
