I recently read an article about Gilmour's set up and rig used for the solo on Another Brick In The Wall (part 2).

Apparently he used a Les Paul (and not his usual Strat), through an overdriven "Limiting Amp".

I have been tyring to nail that tone for YEARS, so was just wandering what a "Limiting Amp" is...

probably a handmade boutique amp from some unknown guy somewhere.

i doubt you'll ever find one, cause they aren't even on google anywhere.

the tone on that song isn't even all that hard to nail, you really don't need his exact gear.

The key to that tone (gearwise, since SO much of his tone comes from him) is the compressor.

Amp company?
Noise Gate?
Compressor?

Not sure on this one.
I'd say it was his compressor.
Have you searched google?

There was no reference to any amp company. It just said "limiting amp" fed straight to the desk (that was for the recording obviously)...

I love that tone - so saturated, yet clear!

Saturated comes from his 70's Big Muff. He uses Pete Cornish pedals now to achieve that tone. Other then that, check out gilmourish.com it'll tell you pretty much everything you need to know. You don't need his exact amp or his exact guitar. I've seen him achieve that tone several ways..

single humbucker, 1 volume knob Charvel San Dimas with EMG pickup

his old black Strat on Live at Royal Albert Hall DVD

and finally his red Strat with EMG SA pickups

Basic set up would be a clean amp with a muff/fuzz pedal in front of it. For smaller venues he uses Fender amps.
