So I just got back from the Coda Music in Luton with my first guitar...

I have been playing Guitar on and off for the last few years, but I've never actually owned one. So today I went to the Store and bought my first guitar:

A Gibson '76 Explorer in Ebony

I love the tone and the feel of it; but I can't play it until Christmas because it's a gift, so it's kind of a new guitar day, but not quite

I'll post a few pics later on

And by '79 Explorer you mean a reissue, right? Anyway, congrats man, you've got yourself something really nice.

Yeah it's the Reissue, I'm trying to get some pics, but my phone is refusing to work with my pc, I'll try to get them soon.

excellent!
I'm an idiot and I accidentally clicked the "Remove all subscriptions" button. If it seems like I'm ignoring you, I'm not, I'm just no longer subscribed to the thread. If you quote me or do the @user thing at me, hopefully it'll notify me through my notifications and I'll get back to you.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Wow. That's a BIT good for a first guitar! I wish I had a 79 Explorer for my first guitar...or even 10th.

Well it's my Dad that says I can't, but he's not around much, so I'll probably play it a bit... like now for example

I looked up the serial number, it looks like it was made in Nashville in September of this year, so it's brand new pretty much!

Beautiful, and pretty good condition for a 30-year old guitar.

He said it's from 1979. It's a reissue from 1979, but it's from 1979; there's no 79' reissue from Gibson nowadays.

I bought mine now because inflation has made the prices shoot up. This was the last Explorer in the store and the last they were selling at the old price, which was £640. Now you gonna pay anywhere between £780 and £810 for an Ebony Explorer

if the credit crunch keeps going, i doubt inflation is going to be a problem fir too long... though the falling pound may help preserve the status quo (on imports, anyway)...
