07 Fender American Deluxe Strat
07 Fender Custom Telecaster
09 Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster
09 Fulltone OCD V.4
10 Ibanez WH-10 V.2
09 Splawn SuperStock
10 Jet City JCA-20
97 Fender Hot Rod Deluxe

Yeh the SICK! bit sounds a bit stupid.

open back will sound louder, give you a more airy sound (due to air being pushed by the back of the speaker)

a closed back will have a lot more punch, bottom end

but which is better for classic rock?

Either one would work for classic rock. I honestly can't stand the open/half back by itself on my RK combo, but the one on my Duncan combo sounds WAY better, it's weird.

I'd probably go for a closed-back myself, they have more advantages than disadvantages over open-back cabs imo.

I've had tube amps for a while now, but never actually had any go down on me

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.
