Ok so you want a new guitar i upgraded from a squire with a ibanez that is almost identical.

1. the floyd rose is a pain but hey if you have time to spend tuning like i did it works out and if not i leave it tuned to drop D so i dont have to tune it down anymore (I have a jackson slsmg for drop C and D)

2. the pickup arrangement gives you alot of tones so that is helpful for getting any sound you want.

3. look into the model and read reviews

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.
