I saw this question asked in the yahoo answer's group and thought it was worthy of the pit.

Would you ever date a chick who had been spit roasted before (not talking about BBQ here lol)

Incorrect, reporting is for those who respect and follow the forums rules. No one thinks you are cool if you are anti-reporting. You don't have to look big and mighty in The Pit.

Can we please not ban blackflag? That was the most appropriate use of the pear I've seen in a while.
On topic: no.

totally agreed. I actually think the ban on the pear should be lifted altogether. banning the pear is nazism at it's finest. freedom of speech FTW

No, I probably wouldn't, though it's not a definite dealbreaker. Also, TS, reporting isn't sucking up to the mods, it's helping them do their jobs.

I'm not even going to explain on how many levels this statement is retarded, just GTFO.

I'm not trying to look big in any way. I just think the pit reports everything nowadays. It has kinda turned into a bitchfest

If that were the case then porn and gore pictures would also be made open for posting, which would pretty much make the pit an exact clone of /b/, personally I'd prefer to keep the shred of individuality we have as a forum.

i'm sorry but posting a smiling pear and posting an image of say, a guy getting his head blown off or something are two different things

There's no excessive reporting and banning. Only excessive dumbasses who can't follow basic rules.

Well then you're contradicting yourself, it's not really freedom if they can't post whatever they want.

And equally as bad for entirely different reasons. Yes, I actually agree with the use of the pear in here, but let's face it, if it were allowed, everybody would post it. It's what happened last time, anyway. Dude's right - if you want /b/, go to /b/. I wish the rules were different regarding the pear, but it's the fault of the (ab)users, not the majority.
Look at how many pointless unfunny memes have been created - like that Russell WTF thing. That isn't even remotely funny in context, but whatever trace humour it had has been erased by hundreds of spam posts mindlessly echoing it. People don't seem to get the simple fact that jokes only remain funny if they are retold in moderation.

EDIT: Just because something is reported does not mean an automatic close. It's just a flag to get the mod's attention. The decision to close is entirely up to the mod. This means that the issue of over-reporting is totally irrelevant, since at the end of the day, it's still a mod's final decision. It's pretty democratic I guess.

Very true. That said, the pear is permaban because it was way overused before and it wasn't remotely funny anymore, it was just annoying. Now that it's ban material we don't see it as much and we wouldn't mind having it back, but the same thing would probably happen, everybody would post it to be cool (not saying blackflag did it for that reason, I think it was very appropriate in this case) instead of just when it was appropriate and we'd get tired of it again.
btw, the thing about freedom of speech is, you're allowed to say whatever you want but you'd better be willing to accept the consequences. BoR doesn't say you can't be prosecuted for running your mouth. Besides, this is the Internet and there is no Bill of Rights.

And there has yet to be a strawman argument, so don't go throwing that word around where it doesn't belong. His point is completely valid and well said.

Just because it is irritating doesnt mean that it should be banned. I find your arguements and your point of views irritating but dont think you should be banned for it. it breaks no rules. I dont see the FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUU cartoons being banned.

You don't see that stupid cartoon here nearly as often as you used to see the pear here, so there's no reason to ban it, it's not spammed.

I don't know about you, but I don't see the FFFFFUUUUUU pictures being posted in every other thread, only the one the one titled "Make your own FFFFFFFFUUUUUUU pics".

And the guy calling people sheep for keeping something in check is stupid.

It's similar to working in a nuclear power plant for instance.

If you don't report things to the people who can fix it, eventually that reactor is going to explode, fuccking up anything within a large proximity.

Same thing goes here.

Wrong word. I mean it's a co-operative process. The mod can't be everywhere at once, so he/she relies on user input.
