Hey guys, I was wondering how to get an Opeth-like clean tone. I know they use PRS guitars.
What kind of amps/effects/EQ settings would you use to get it?
All (well, most) advice is appreciated.

They don't use Laneys for their cleans.

I'm not an Opeth gear expert though, forget what their clean amp is. Think they use Fenders and Vox's.

I was looking for the clean tone ideally at 3:20 in
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRYpg7l271o.

It sounds almost acoustic-like to me.
But I know when they play it live, they can't just pull acoustics out of their asses on stage.

It's an acoustic.

Someone told me they use a Laney head and drive it with a pedal, but use a different amp for their cleans, not sure what amp though.
#10
They use every amp

Probably a Vox, I know they use them in the studio.
Then there's this band called Slice The Cake...

Bunch of faggots putting random riffs together and calling it "progressive" deathcore.
Stupid name.
Probably picked "for teh lulz"

It's a Vox for cleans if I'm not mistaken.

So for their live rig, they use a clean amp and a pedal for distortion?

Does no one know what the **** opeth uses? Come on!

Live they use Laney VH100R half stacks ALL SOUNDS, clean and distortion with a Boss GT8 processor up front for extra boost on overdrive, or effects on cleans.

In the studio they use Laney VH100R's and Laney GH100L's and Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifiers, among other amps.
I've bought, sold, and traded more gear than I care to admit.

Again, most of it IS the amp

Also, in studio recordings, they are using everything they can get their hands on..... $10,000 amps included..... they use crazy shit on their albums.....they used a mellotron on a lot of albums, for example

Sounds like an incubus description.

I always thought Opeth just turned down their guitar volume for the cleans, coz even their cleans sound a bit edgy.

I don't think that they do sound good. Every time i've seem Opeth live, the sound has been underwhelming at best. They use too much overdrive on the keyboards too.

I've heard from many different people that they use Fenders and Vox's for their cleans.

I know for sure Michael uses the VH100R. Looks like Frederik likes his Marshall's though.

I couldn't disagree more. Frederik's presence on Watershed is amazing, and would not have been the same album without him. Lindgren was good, but Frederik is such an amazing guitar player, no matter what he is playing. His lead work on Watershed is amazing. He didn't overplay and try to play too much or too fast, the leads fit the songs impeccably.

Frederik>Peter IMO.
