I'm getting a Microcube soon and am wondering a couple of things. Would a distortion pedal be required to get the distortion sound, or is there a setting on the amp. Also, if a pedal can be used, what would be the best one for the price to get for it?

The Microcube is the best distortion pedal to go with a Microcube.

If you get the normal microcube, there are 3 settings for distortion: british combo, classic stack, or rectifier, and there's a gain knob, so you can play with those and get some nice tones. If you go for the microcube RX, there's a few more settings on it for distortion. I don't know how a pedal would react with it, I think it's made so that you don't have to use pedals.

yeah, just use one of the microcube's amp models for distortion- probably the r-fier model for modern high gain.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Presumably because the CCF (Combined Corksniffing Forces) of MLP and Gibson forums would rise up against them, plunging the land into war.
