does anybody have those guitars who when you say the brand name out loud people go "what...?" I have a Johnston strat model that nobody has heard of and its kinda funny after a while to watch people gaze in confusion as to what brand guitar this is :P
#2
Most people I know don't have a clue what a Carvin is.
They're like "What guitar do you play then?" and I say "Well it's a strat style, but not Fender" cos I know they'll say "What?" to Carvin, so they always say "So it's a squier?" and I'm like "No, no, a Carvin" then, like clockwork "What?"

But there are many, Suhr is one that people won't have heard, there's also the ones like BlackMachine, Caparison etc etc.

I have trained a live tarantula to calm and sit on my guitar due to the awesome powers of my rocking. When I am not playing it angrily bounces about my room hitting everything that isn't me.

Dillion; Whenever I play my PRS copy from them, people think it's a custom PRS(It has a non-stock inlay so it looks custom), then I show them the headstock.

I have two acoustics that, in my experience at least, people seem to have never heard of: A Sigma, and a Babicz.

Babicz makes awesome guitars (check out Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree to see one in action).

Fret King, Indie, Vintage and Peerless seem to be creeping around in the background making some pretty good guitars for the money in the UK anyway.
Rig Winter 2017:

Fender Jazzmaster/Yamaha SG1000
Boss TU-3, DS-2, CS-3, EHX small stone, Danelectro delay
Laney VC30-112 with G12H30 speaker, or Session Rockette 30 for smaller gigs
Elixir Nanoweb 11-49 strings, Dunlop Jazz III XL picks
Shure SM57 mic in front of the amp

Heh, I've played most of these. Cool.

Parker is a good one, don't see those very often anymore.

There was a company that made an 8-stringer called Octavium... wish I could remember the company.

Hagstrom are still unknown and make great guitars, although you see them in all kinds of stores so i bet that they won't be so unknown in a year or two.

just remembered Eko. i don't know how easy it is to get hold of an Eko reissue, i saw a bunch of them at music live but could find nothing on the net. Eko used to make guitars for Vox in the 1960s, so they make a phantom reissue which i have GAS for because it has got to be the most hideous yet cool guitar on the planet.

Halo makes a guitar called the Octavia.

As for other cool brands check out Vigier, the afore mentioned Caparison and Tom Anderson, for starters.

Cheers but I'm not the one saying "What?" at Carvin
I know how good they are and I also know how great Vai is, but to be fair his Carvin tone isn't as good as his Bogner tone (IMO).

You say that, but the Cool Cat pedals are awesome, and could be much, much more expensive.

Malden Guitars. Great instruments, and genuinely individual. Their Jazzmaster copies are not only sleeker and sexier than the originals, but better as well. Bloody awesome.

Fret King are awesome guitars, with serious bang for buck. Shame some of them are so ugly.

Dr Z amps are sweet as.

T-Rex pedals kick ass. Mind you, they might be a bit better known since I last checked.

Fernandes (of the famous sustainer) do awesome guitars, and at one point in history their Strat copies were considered better than Fender's.
