We recently added a computer to our home studio, and we have our TASCAM DP-01FX/CD hooked up via the USB. We were wondering if anyone knew of some decent software to better utalize the hookup, as is we're just using it as a backup for some of our tracks.

The TASCAM exports individual tracks as .WAV files, and can import WAVs as well. We were hoping for somthing that allows not only the ability to load each track into a slider for multi-track editing, but also somthing that can compress the individual track files into a single track/mp3. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Our budget is no more then $199. Sorry to ask such a vague question, but we're fairly new to intigrating a computer into a studio environment (before we were just using a mixing board > compressor > TASCAM) and we want to get the most bang for our buck.

I dunno if it makes a difference, but we don't have any kind of direct-in for the computer. It's going to go from the mics > mixing board > compressor > then each instrument gets recorded to it's own track on the TASCAM.

Thanks in advance!

-Edit-

If it helps, the comp is a 2ghz AMD Athlon 64, 512 MB DDR (soon to be upgraded), Soundblaster Audigy, and between the two drives about 200 gigs free space.
