I have an interview for a dental school and basically they've asked me to bring along a 3 or so minute recording of me playing guitar (to prove I have good manual dexterity).
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could play? I mentioned on my personal statement that I'm a fan of heavy metal, so do I record a metal piece, or would that seem slightly inappropriate for an interview?
I've been playing for over 7 years now, so I'm a fairly able guitarist.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, cheers.

something classical i would suggest. Something fast and technical, or at least should SOUND technical even if it isnt.

Something which shows dexterity on both hands would be idea, so something classical may well be in order.
You could do a classical version of a metallier/rockier song. Quite a few examples on youtube of stuff like Bho Rap on classical guitar.

I don't know about that; clearly, you'd want to impress them. Maybe bring something acoustic and mention "if you'd want to hear something heavier, there's this piece as well, that's much more advanced, blah blah blah."

But, since they've asked for a recording, obviously, you're going to want to bring, like, Hangar 18 and say "yes, that's TOTALLY me playing that."

play as many shred(ish) solos you can, to showcase manual dexterity, try two handed tapping. also, alot of lamb of god riffs are pretty technical.

Why would a dental school need a recording? You say it's too prove you have good manual dexterity. How do none guitarists prove this then? Do they make them wiggle their fingers in the interview really fast. I've never heard of anything like this before.

I feel bad looking at porn simply because of the ol' story that a lot of those girls were molested as children, But I've never heard of midgets being molested, so it doesn't matter to me anymore, as that's the only kind of porn I watch.

I dunno, maybe they play another instrument? Do arts and crafts? Needlework? If people can't prove they're good with their hands in some way then they probably won't get into dental school. It's a damn competitive.

Dentists playing guitar? not as odd as you might think! My orthodontist is a drummer...

BTW TS, which Dental School(s) are you applying to?

Glasgow dental school (along with Dundee, Manchester and Liverpool). This is my second time applying, first year round my UKCAT scores were not good enough or something. So yeah I'm really not wanting to **** up this time. Can't be bothered with another year out.

How about a 10 minute clip of you giving them the finger? Manual dexterity? Is this a joke?

Two completely different skills. They don't pay you for doing amazing solos, completely ridiculous.

So proving I'm good with my hands is useless for a dental course? I guess you're right, dentists dont need good manual skills, spatial awareness or good hand to eye co-ordination.

That doesn't prove your good with your hands. It just proves that you've dedicated a lot of your time to playing an instrument.
