When I lift my fingers up, I get unwanted open string sound, especially if I'm anywhere around the 12th fret (stupid natural harmonics). If I'm doing it on a clean channel, you can't notice at all, but on distortion, it clearly shows. What exactly is the best way to mute the strings, and eliminate that open string sound? That's like...the only thing that's stopping my sweep picking from being perfect.

I do it with the palm of my picking hand. You mute it with your palm directly after you play the note.
