That happened to me once. Then I got in my flying car, flew home and made love to my wife, Scarlett Johansen.

I sense a million responses giving out about why metalcore is metal and should be allowed here....

I want to try that while playing the opening riff to "Tempting Time".

0-0-0-13-0-0-0-0-13 or something like that alalalala but It;s so heavy and off time and awesome and you could not f**k anyone to it.

Hm, the only band off of the top of my head is Nightingale. Possibly Green Carnation.

Ayreon?
Some may call it heavy rock opera or whatever. But it is basically metal, and awesome metal at that.

No i just call them prog...

Darkest Hour... Since Hidden Hands they're pretty much melodic death.

I swear, even after reading the title for 6th time, I thought it said "gay area metal"

and Riverside

That's what i thought at first too...

Dead To Fall and Unearth are two others I think are pretty metal at times.

So basically, TS was too lazy to go to the proper forums which contain the bands of his interest, so he decided to start an idiotic thread here.

Thank you very much, TS.

How anyone can consider Led Zeppelin metal is beyond me.

I agree. It doesn't even sound like metal, like some rock bands who try to use metal riffs in boring rock songs and end up as nu-metal or metalcore do.

Bleeding Through and Lamb of God. They get classified as metalcore, but IMO they have very few elements that remoove them from the category of real metal and into the metalcore subgenre. Sure Bleeding Through use a couple breakdowns, but so do Opeth, Cryptopsy and Suffocation. Sure LoG Have Hardcore-esque vocals, but so do Machine Head and Mastodon

Maybe Pain of Salvation, seeing as a lot of people consider them prog rock and whatnot, however I consider Porcupine tree prog rock like most people, and along with Ayreon, PoS definitely have plenty of articulate, yet heavy sections.

Machine Head...MAYBE borderline at some points.
Mastodon...again, not really.

Unless I am missing something. But I feel like there are bands that much better fit into the metalcore category than those bands.

yeahno...

wat.

no.

Mastodon are Progressive metal and Machine Head are Thrash/Groove according to MA, and LoG are Groove Metalcore and Bleeding Through are just Metalcore according to MA.

Lamb of God, Protest the Hero. I want to say Bleeding Through, but even they consider themselves Hardcore.

Dream Theater, generally I just call them a prog. band but they delve into rock aswell as metal.

Yeah. That moment about 6 minutes into "Arriving Somewhere (But Not Here)" is right up there with the metal, though. To be such a melodic song it gets pretty damn heavy.

Also, Riverside. I really don't know whether to consider them metal or not. They have a heavy edge to their sound, but it's more melodic than anything else.

EDIT:
That's very hardcorish, but their version of Holy Diver is pretty metal...

They raped Holy Diver. Sticking a breakdown in a Dio song is like ****ting on a perfectly good sandwich and then expecting people to like it.

i like to call both PT and Riverside prog rock, although the latter is heavier, and even features growls on a few songs

Eh, I wouldn't call them growls. I would call them fucking awesome, though. The ending of Loose Heart = win of epic proportions.
