can a push pull knob be used to mute the guitar when its pulled out and then when its pushed in to unmute the guitar.

I think it can, but I'm not sure. I think you'd have to wire the switch to the ground or something.

Like a killswitch, yes. But its pretty useless when you could have a button instead because the push/pull isnt really meant to be moved rapidly and is hard to pull up.

I think he wants it for more of like an off switch for practical purposes. It is a bit superfluous, when you can just roll the volume down, but if you're not gonna do anything else with it, it'll save you a second or two. Unlike a killswitch, this will stay off when after you pull on it.
