realizing that things is starting to get expensive, I am debating whether I should go and get a new guitar, or should I just upgrade my pickups.

The guitar in question is FM-408 (8-string) — I want it for the Tool/bassy stuff.

You should just get the upgrade.

The only reason you should consider getting a new axe would be if you were in a pro band. I really don't the point in "bedroom" players owning 3 or 4 guitars it's just dumb.

Okay... because the only reason I want a new guitar is I want to do extended range stuff. Maybe a bass guitar is a better idea?

On a side note, i am planning to install Seymour Duncan P-Rails SHPR-1 for neck, and the choice of DiMarzio, Breed (bridge or Neck), D-sonic, D-activator, FRED, and Mo'Joe for Bridge.

Sidenote: I want something that cna do wide range of stuff, Fusion if you will. SA120 currently have 5 settings, with neck humbucker, neck parallel, both humbuckers, both inner-coils, and bridge. I can throw in a pull knob to coiltap the bridge
