Fenders tend to have this thing where it sounds sort of like fuzz (but not in a good way). Its hard to describe, its sort of like 60 cycle hum, or feedback humming in the background. Like its trying to filter it, but cant quite make it. It seems to do this at any volume.

Also this is with any Fender amp.

Try a Casino through any Fender and you'll know what I mean.

I was thinking maybe a noisegate and/or an EQ. What else could help with this? Or is that just the way Fenders are?

Grounding...? Any amp will do that in certain rooms or with certain guitars.

I tried a Casino through a Deluxe Reverb, no fuzz at all. Maybe its' the grounding or something?
#6
Could it be feedback from my Casino (its a completely hollow)?

I've noticed this with my Ampeg, but only when I play too close to the amp. Otherwise it dooesnt happen.

Could my guitar be causing feedback, and in-turn cause this wierd fuzz or buzzing?

Does it happen with your Frontman?

I dont have a Frontman. They did this too. Thats why I dont have one.

Right now I have a Cube and Ampeg Gemini from '68.

Cube, no problems whatsoever. Ampeg, only when I play too close, otherwise, no problems.
#12
The fenders are brighter so it is probably just amplifying certain frequencies which the ampeg is not getting alot of hum on

Sounds like your casino.
#15
Are you playing in a room with any electrical equipment running?

Are you directly in front of the amp?

Are you sure you are really hearing hum?

Is there anything else worth commenting on?

Do you own a fender amp?

yes. gut it, and rewire from scratch. gonna be a pain since its a semi-hollow, but oh well.

Its COMPLETELY hollow, not semi-hollow.

Also, now that I think of it, all Casinos do this.

I played a Casino through a Deluxe Reverb and it still did this.
I was using one of GC's Casino's not my own, and it still did this.

I think it may be the amp, cause it works fine with any other brands I've tried.

I guess like mexican food and cereal, they just arent meant to work together.

^
I know its a bad analogy, but could that be the case?

BTW I love howitzer shells, though I think you might have a hard time getting one up my nose.

Seriously though, why shouldn't we think you're crazy?

1. Casino is full hollow
2. Hollowbodies and Fender amps are matches made in guitar heaven
3. I think this kid has soap in his ear. Or maybe too much dirt.
4. ???

Yes, and you need a court liaison to sign off to prove:

1. They aren't fake photographs
2. You actually played the amps with said guitars
3. Whether or not that was fuzz
4.?????
5. Profit

idk man..it'd be more likely that there was something wrong with your casino or your ear than the fact that you could hear a malfunction in all fender amps that people just ignored throughout the years

No. Everybody dies. And one day, given that your relationship doesn't crash and burn like so many do, one of you will end up deep in sorrow while watching the other one die.

ok, i am about to go make my excursion. i will test an epi casino (if they have one...if they dont, i will find a similar hollowbody) and test on two or three fender amps, an orange amp, and a carr amp. next i will test a strat on the same amps, followed by an LP or SG. i will take as many pictures as possible, and update you all (including pictures and findings) when i get back.
#38
alrite, time for my findings (my batteries were dead....should have checked them before hand...so no pictures)

and the shop did have an epi casino, and i tried all the pickup positions.

1) ampeg amp - obvious 60 cycle hum, but no other overtones/undertones/other type of fuzz/hum
2) carr amp - same as above
3) fender amps (57 deluxe) - the 60 cycle hum may have been a tiny bit louder, but nothing besides that. no extra hum, fuzziness, or buzzing. however the guitar came through crystal clear.

after talking to the guys at the shop, explaining the situation, and some head scratching, i may have found the cause of your problem.

my question is this: do you have a dimmer switch on the light in your room/close to your room? are there any fluorescent lights in your room/close by? how old is the wiring in your house?

fender amp circuits are very susceptible to these kinds of lighting/electrical issues, especially dimmer switches, and will cause extra types of hum/buzzing besides the normal 60 cycle hum, and the extra hum is significantly more noticeable on fender amps than other manufacturers.

i hope this helps in your situation.
#39
well, i didnt think of location.

im in texas, so humidity and dust, sand, dirt, etc. are a huge problem. also my house is like 50 years old or something. so its no wonder.

But i tried the amps in the store, and the store has been there since 1975, so it could be that.

also, i tried completely hollow, humbucker equipped guitars, and they sounded clear and no feedback thing like im talking about.

then, i tried complete hollow, p-90 equipped, and it hums.

this makes me think its the pu's or the entire guitar itself (i could have gotten one that was wired bad or something).

so its the guitar, and/or the pu's

mystery solved (am going to ask store guys tommorow just to confirm my theory/most likely cause of problem...)

al;so im going to try this:

casino-> noise gate (most likely an isp)-> fender amp

^
if this dont work, ill look for a hollow with humbuckers and try to trade or sell my casino for it.
