I am going to be getting a Standard Stratocaster for Christmas. I am just learning to play guitar and just have an acoustic at this point. I have started learning some John Frusciante and Jack Johnson on the acoustic as well as some CCR. I am interested in learning some more RHCP type stuff and maybe some Dead.

I like the Sunburst color with a rosewood fretboard.... but should I get a Standard Stratocaster or a Standard Stratocaster HSS?

Id suggest the HSS because youll get EVEN MORE versatility, which can be great when learning.

Both are great options however.

Congrats and merry christmas

Man this site has dumb rules.

If you don't like it you can leave.

TS; If you play a lot of heavier stuff, get the HSS. I personally love the tone of the bridge and mid-bridge pickups on my SSS strat, so I wouldn't get an HSS personally.

Jenny needs to sow her wild oats with random Gibsons and Taylors she picks up in bars before she settles down with a PRS.

I'd take the HSS, because if you ever switch to metal that will come in handy and you should still be able to get RHCP tones with the neckand mid pickups.

What does /thread mean?

It means don't hijack a topic for your own question.

I got an SSS myself. I figured that when I do get around to having a proper amp (read sig) to play with distortion and such I will also have a guitar for it (i.e. Explorer or some sort of ESP w/ duncan pups).
my MG15DFX has a button that simulates the sound of one of the expensive tube marshall amps
