tile says it all... What are the main drop tunings for a 5 string bass?
Or is it a five string to not have to drop tune as harshly?

well i think a standard tuned 5 strind bass is

A E A D G

and that is quite low

i think this cuz of a 7 string guitar is

A E A G D B E

(i think i might be wrong)

Standard tuning on a five-string bass is BEADG.

BeastEdit:
TS, you can drop tune any bass, regardless of the number of strings. It all depends on whether or not you actually need the use of notes that are lower than a low B.

That's a drop tuned 5 string bass.

A 5 string is usually tuned to B E A D G, and sometimes in E A D G C.

For drop tunings, the bass can be used in A E A D G.

If you're playing a song in drop d, it might be easier to tuned to B D A D G and simply ignore your lowest string.

...however, there are thousands of possible tunings for bass.

(Oh, and a seven string is usually in B E A D G b e)

would you need to do anything to the B string if tuning to say..... drop C, drop B or drop A.

droping the b is pretty unnecessary unless you're playing KoRn or death metal, but for like Pumpkins or Kiss I usually just drop the 4

How many of you posess speakers that will reproduce bottom 'B' at performance levels let alone dropping to low 'A' ? You will hear more of the 1st Harmonic than the fundamental when using 10s, 12s and even some 15s.
