I have this great danelectro U2 89 reissue. I read that replacing the crappy rosewood bridge does not affect the danelectro sound.

So I want to put a tremolo are on this badass baby. Anybody got any ideas of which tremolo to use or if it is possible? I kinda like the lyre vibrato on the gibson SGs.

best of luck finding a lyre vibrato. nthey look sweet, but they're impossible to find. Bigsby's probably you're best bet

yeah I could use a bigsby. ... do you think it would work??

Bigsby would absolutely work, but you have to drill into the guitar to mount it. also, if your guitar has no neck angle, i don't think a bigsby will work.

what about this? https://stetsbar.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&key=4STCBS

the only thing I worry about is that the danelectro is hollow and the top is made from masonite. I thought of the arctop style tremolo would be better because the plywood frame is fairly thick around the edges of the guitar.
How much stress does a tremolo put on the top of the guitar?

(and yes yes danelectros are the cheapest built guitars ever but it plays sooo damn well)

ohh yeah and umm those tremolos look like they would work but ..... I have a problem with spending more on a tremolo than I paid for the guitar. haha

then you're stuck with low-tech stuff like this:

and you'll still need a bridge. maybe a tuno, or something:
