Hey, everyone, I was just wondering how you would get the tone on guitar for this song. Is it effects, pickups, amp settings, or playing style?

Hmm, Keith Urban, eh... I don't particularly know... but if you find out, I'm also looking for a tone that resembles his. Gotta learn Raining on Sunday, don't cha know.

Yeah. That's a good song. The one I'm looking for is way different than that though. It's kind of a...well, like a muted sound almost. To use onomonopia, it sounds like someone is going "ooooo" everytime he plays a note. Kind of.

Lol no harm I suppose. The problem is that it isn't a song that sounds like anything else he played, as I explained above in my edit.

he doesn't have a special rig for that one song...

It appears he uses a bit of everything. Google him playing and count the number of different backlines he uses. Also, you may be thinking of Brad Paisley; he performs with Trainwrecks.
#15
I dont know if your on about the lead or rythm tone, but i was listening to the lead part...

sounds to me like a delay and maybe an octaver in one or two parts?

also i think i might hear some chorus?

i'm not 100% sure

If you take a jar, and whisper what you want to hate into it, then close the jar, coat it in crunchy peanut butter, and shove it up your ass. I'm pretty sure you could hate everything after that.

^THANK YOU SO MUCH! Finally a useful answer.

Ok, so what is an octaver?

I'm curious how this sound is made because I love the song and want to perform it at my school's talent show in the spring.

there was just one or two small parts in the song where he COULD have used an octaver (not sure if he did), but basically it just copies what hes playing but puts it an octave up or down, so theres like 2 notes at the same time.. i dont know how to explain it.

The main thing about his sound there is the delay, so all you need is a delay pedal and it will do that kind of echoy sound. forget about the octave thing.

there might be some chorus on his sound too, but if there is it's fairly subtle

if your gonna try and imitate that sound i think all you need is delay

Hey, i love keith urban, and i listened to this song and i bought it off i tunes, then i have a rp 500 and it is set on course, and your switch to lead, it is exactly the same what kind of guitar do you have?

I think he has a trainwrecks. I don't particularly like his music but I gotta give him props for using it.
Good luck getting one.

Paisley uses Trainwrecks? I could've sworn he used Dr.Z almost exclusively...

Paisley uses Dr. Z

Keith Urban uses Bad Cat amps.

My guitar is a....wait for it....
SQUIER STRAT! I plan on eventually replacing it with my Want Gear and Dream Gear. But as my sig shows I'm pretty far away from getting that.

Also, Keith plays Gibsons and Fenders, although I think he has switched to using mostly LP's lately. He used to always use Tele's.

I haven't been playing an incredibly long time, but I love Sweet Thing and want to make it my big project song to work on.

Thanks for the help everyone. Now what would be a good delay pedal? I need to start building my rig eventually, might as well start when I can, right?

Nah, start with a new amp. You'll be much happier.
It sounds like a nice clean amp would be great for you, maybe a blues junior. With a nice overdrive. And a tele would probably be good/

This, plus a nice overdrive. I feel like a vintage Blackface champ would be better than a Blues Junior (and they can be had for about $3-400)

Also, this is a picture of Paisley's rig. Notice the Trainwreck in the middle. I posted Urban's rig earlier.

Wow that must be an old picture. Lately the pictures of his concert rig are...well, impressive.

If you watch the Online music video you can see it behind him (the video was shot during an actual concert.) He literally has a WALL of Dr. Z's behind him. Well, actually, I suppose those are probably just cabs. Now I feel stupid.

That is his live rig (minus his rack -- he is using a floor pedalboard in the picture). You are right, the wall behind him is largely just a prop. His actual set-up is backstage.

Lol no. I actually know nothing about Trainwrecks. I've looked up Dr. Z's. The prices made me go

I actually thought Dr. Zs are pretty fairly priced for what you get.

Trainwrecks on the other hand.... O__O

Anyway, they're both great players and they have the rep to be able to play whatever they want.
