Just out of curiosity, does anyone here ever haggle prices on gear at their local music store? I personally have never done it, but what about anyone in The Pit?

Why wouldn't you haggle prices at a music store when buying expensive thing.

edit: not on strings or picks though because that would be retarded.
grok it.

Should've added this. You can't haggle on something that's like $4.

It depends on what it is. I'm not gonna haggle over some cheap strings or picks.

But if it's a guitar, that's a different story.

ive never really tried it - mainly because i buy big expensive things on the web rather than in-store. I should give it a go sometime though. Any tips on good haggling? :P
#14
Act like you only have a bit less then the price, say it's $500, say you've only got $440. Then just be all like 'oh, I found another $20' if they say no.

I just want to say I got my Ibanez Roadstar II for $75.

$75 - I jewed the **** out of the guy.
#15
not my local place cuz i'm friends with the guy that owns it and he just gives me a sweet price, but if i'm out somewhere then I do... (though I tend not to on picks )

lol thank you for the idea I'll try that next time to see how the guy reacts, I may even save like 0.50$

I don't really haggle that much; I know the manager at the Samash near me so I usually get stuff at a little bit lower than employee pricing.
#18
I don't, when I buy at my local guitar store. They usually give me a good deal, way better than i would get online. My last purchase of a MIA Strat and Blues Jr I saved a couple hundred bucks, and they threw a bunch of extra goodies.

Ha, funny story - Some guy stole a Fender Strat by wearing alot of baggy wigger clothes, he put the ****ing thing down his pants (I guess he was wearing a big coat too), walked right out with it.

I don't know who it was, but it's a lol story.

i've gotten some good prices on gear, but i've had to suck a lot of dicks.

I've never tried it because I assume it doesn't work because nobody's dumb enough to fall for haggling.

I think I'm wrong though.

It works fine, theres nothing to fall for, it's not like a con game or something, you're just trying to get a better price by refusing to pay the sticker price, and music stores expect you to do it.

You are. They are assuming you're dumb enough to pay full price.

The guitar I bought was already on sale, like a hundred bucks off... so I didn't bother.
