hey there, I've been getting into some really dark and heavy stuff, and I'm loving Electric Wizard and Sunn O))) at the moment. Can anyone recomend other doom/drone/sludge types of bands that have that creepy heavy vibe? I personally find it much heavier and darker than death or black metal, though i still enjoy that too.... Oh, and can you recommend me the best Sunn O))) album to get?

i have Void and it's great, i'd go with that (assuming that you already have Black One, if not, get that first.)

As for dark music, i'm not sure how much funeral doom you know, so i'll post some obvious and some less obvious:
Wormphlegm (torture doom, very good)
Senthil (wormphlegm clone, still quite good, though)
Black Bile (wormphlegm influenced, has SOME originality)
Axis of Perdition (not funeral doom, but amazing)
Brown Jenkins (Blackened funeral doom)
Bosque (really mellow/nature influenced funeral doom)
Catacombs (lovecraft influenced doom)
Stabat Mater (funeral doom)
Worship (funeral doom)
Khanate (really really really ****ed up drone, one of the most disturbing albums i've ever heard)
Eyehategod (really hateful sludge)
Crowbar (sludge, really heavy)

Winter, Thergothon, Ahab, Visceral Evisceration, Salem Earth. Best Sunn O))) album is probably Black One, and if you're looking for weirder/more experimental stuff, get their collaboration album with Boris.

EDIT: I'd be way more surprised at the Type O Negative rec.

It didn't seem possible, but apparently Messiah can spam even more now.

i just figured it was a joke, lol. and i wouldn't really consider Ahab DARK, more oceanic, if that makes any sense.

Yeah, but they're heavy as fuck.

EDIT: Also, not heavy, but really creepy, dark vibe, get Axis of Perdition's Deleted Scenes From the Transition Hospital.

Nah, the atmosphere is just suffocating. The keyboards add to the the effect as well.

Blut Aus Nord is pretty dark/doomy with an interesting industrial atmosphere. I advise people to check them out if they don't already know them.

Burning Witch anyone?

i don't have them, i've been meaning to get them for quite a while. are they similar to Khanate/Sunn or more traditional doom?

Kind of an evolutionary step between. If Sunn0))) made 'rock' songs, they'd sound like Burning Witch.
No gods, no countries, no masters.
More guitar, less Ultimate-Guitar.

Yey, you managed to name one band who USED to be doom, that's it

and to the threadstarter, I recommend:
The Rec Thread
Lord Vicar
The Puritan
Sahg
Centurions Ghost

Bongzilla are just as heavy, but they have a slightly more upbeat air to them. Worth checking out either way.
Dyer's Eve is awesome, and has an abnormally large penis, which doesn't act as any hinderance to his everyday life despite its freakishly large size.

Seconds to Burning Witch and Corrupted.

Also Buried At Sea, Moss, Monarch!, Ocean, Asva, Sourvein and Grief.
