what does a s-1 switch do? is it like a coil tap? if i put it on a hss strat, will it sound exactly like a sss strat?

S-1 Switch is different depending on the guitar, and the pickup configuration.

Pretty sure the S-1 switch isn't available as an after market option (though you could DIY one and use a toggle switch, or push-pull pot or whatever)

I doubt you could DIY a full S1 switching thing, but a push-pull pot for the humbucker would be easy enough if it had the 4 wires thing you need for it. Which would mean you would need to buy a new pickup.

You can buy pickguards with all the electronics in it for S1, but it might be quite expensive.
