Hey UG! This is Yash from India. Now i've decided to buy me an electric guitar
I'm looking for guitar within 15000INR-17000INR(Indian rupees)(300-350US$)
I've playing for the past 1.5 years on an acoustic. I play a whole lotta stuff. Everything from Blues to Metal. Not really heavy metal but more like Iron Maiden, Metallica and that too not much of it. One very important thing, I'M LEFT HANDED.
What would you guys suggest?Realiability and vresatiliy is what Iwant. As far as possible no Floyd Rose please.

Thanks!!!!

Yash.

Hmmmm... well those brands are not available in India. Could you suggest something from brands like Yamaha, Ibanez, Squire, ESP etc? Those are the brands which get here. And how is the Samick AV3 have you ever tried it?

Go with the Epiphone low end like Lp 100 or plain top les paul. If you want to order online go for the Agile. For that much you can get a practically an 800 dollar tone. Check rondomusic.com

I STRONGLY disagree. These guitars are not very good. The Agile is okay but nothing special, the two Epis are plain bad.

I'd recommend a Yamaha Pacifica 112, it is very versatile because of it's HSS pickup configuration. It'll do blues, metal and everything inbetween. It has a tremolo, but not a Floyd, so I think it will suit you well. It costs about 200$, that leaves enough money for a nice little amp like Roland microcube.

I'll post links, give me a second.

EDIT:
Here is the guitar:

The guitar is also available in left hand (though the lefty one is black if I remember correctly). Very nice guitar, check out Squires (Fender sub-brand) around that price range, too.

And two Roland amps:

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Roland-Micro-Cube-RX-5W-4x4-Guitar-Combo-Amp-104827787-i1388437.gc

Usually the microcube is way cheaper (only a few bucks more expensive than the Cube 15), so don't let the pricing here foo you. The microcube is the better option of the two because it can model several amps that the Cube 15 can't, but if it must, the Cube 15 will still suffice. It's a nice starter amp.

Sorry man, I think there is no such thing. Floyds in that price range usually mean poor materials used for the tremolo, which will cause it's knife edges to wear out quickly, making the whole guitar nearly impossible to tune. The damn thing will go out of tune if you look at it funny.
The cheapest I'd go for is an Ibanez S320, which costs 500$. That is INCREDIBLY cheap for a good Floyd equipped guitar. Please don't buy a guitar with a cheap double locking trem, you'll regret it in the end. It's better to save up and wait a little longer than to blow out 300 bucks for a guitar that'll be useless within a year or two.

The S320:

+1 for the pacifica..i totally forgot..
that is probably the best HSS strat copy on a budget, and to be fair..it handles distortion quite good on the bucker..and cleans well on all others!!

Thanks guys! I'll check out some pacificas here if they have any...hey and is it true that ibanez guitars like the GRG170DXL have reliability problems? And is FAT10 bridge in the former a floating trem? That guitar's available in almost every store!
And Quailman you really got a Custom Shop Strat??

About the reliability: Yes and no. I'd avoid the GRGs with double locking tremolos, that being the 270 and 220:

The tremolos on those are pretty much bound to crap out on you within a year or two, they are made of cheap metals, which will make their knife edges (on which the whole system rests), wear out, which will lead to problems with tuning stability. I'd avoid double locking systems anyway if it's your first electric, they're very difficult to set up.

Otherwise those guitars are nice. If I recall correctly, the 170 is exactly like the 270, just with a different tremolo. The 170 has a non-locking two-point trem. It rests on two knife edges as well which wear out just like on the 270, but it is not intended for extreme whammy techniques like the locking trem, so usually people treat it more carefully, which makes it wear out a lot slower. So if you buy it new, you get a nice trem, but I'd not buy a used GRG170, because you never know in what condition the trem is. On a side note, the Yamaha Pacifica does not have this problem because it rests on 6 screws instead of 2 knife edges, making it less susceptible to wear and tear.

Here's the GRG170:
http://www.ibanez.co.jp/products/eg_page2008.php?area_id=4&data_id=1450&color=CL01&year=2008&cat_id=1&series_id=52

I personally prefer the Pacifica, mainly because it has a single coil in the neck position, which is nice for bluesy stuff, while the neck humbucker on the Ibanez GRGs is better for higher gain lead stuff. If you can, try them out and see what you like better.
Oh yeah, the wood used on Pacifica 112's is alder, on the Ibanez guitars you get basswood. It's not that much of a difference in this case imo.

And yeah, I've got a Custom Shop Strat and I tell you now I'm broke.

I'm not the only one this site though and there are people around here who have guitar collections that makes me wet my pants through sheer amazement.
