Hi guys. Tone seeker here lol.

Looking for recommendations of personal use (aka you used it) for a good eq. Money is sorta no object. Less than 100 is ideal, boss, mxr, micro, whatever. Brand names mean **** to me.

I'm looking for more control over my top end to add on some jangle to my distortion channels on my b-52 at 212 amp.

Personally, I think the amp is tight, but it could use a bit more of an oomf on the high end to put it over into some hardcore metal territory. That and I've always wanted to control my tone better.

So Questions:

What to get?
7 band really that much better?
Personal experiences?

Any answers are helpful. Its my birthday and I just got some good money to spend on some nice things I've been wanting =D

I know you asked for personal experiences and owners testaments and stuff, but I just wanted to say I've heard nothing but good things about the Danelectro Fish n chips eq pedal. 7 band, pretty cheap, apparently sounds great. That's just what I've picked up.
I'm Joel. I play guitar. I am a student. I look at the cost of tuition, not in a dollar value, but in the guitars I'm sacrificing now, to be able to buy later.

I've heard good and bad about the Danelectro, like 50-50. But its really inexpensive so try it out at least.

Otherwise I can't really help, sorry...

If price isn't a concern then definitely the MXR 10 band.

I haven't had experience with it, but I've heard the comparisons between the EQ's. I've heard MANY people say the Boss colors tone and adds noise.

There's no point choosing the Boss over the MXR if you can afford the MXR anyway. The MXR is without a doubt the best EQ pedal you can get.

Both are good options. Depends on the kind of control you want over your tone.

Well I'm in Canada.

eBay's pretty useless for me. I would get raped with customs and shipping.

Yeah, Ebay is a pain in Canada for gear unless you buy something big enough that its worth it, or buy from ebay.ca and buy domestically.

Also, some people have US postboxes to ship stuff too. :P

Yeah, being in Canada unless you find these amazing CL listings that pop up all over the place in the US, you have to buy new basically. Barely any Canadians sell amps on CL, and most places wont ship to PO boxes either.

And the prices new here are inflated. My local CL has Boss pedals and Pianos. Exciting stuff..

shush then

MXR is the yardstick round these parts

i'd look for something with a gain/level slider OR plenty of boost to make up for it

the Maxon 7 band looks good features wise IMO

EDIT: dont rule out a rack EQ. more bands and suprisingly affordable

The MXR has 4 more EQ bands along with a Gain slider. It also costs 40 bucks less and gets better reviews.

i dont see how its helping if you dont know what its actually like in the flesh and youre just conveying rumours

in the UK the maxon sits inbetween the 2 MXRs both feature wise and price wise

thats why i said it

because i know about it

First off, how does relaying the opinions of others become "rumor"? I fail to see the logic in that.

The Maxon costs $50 bucks more in the US, has less features, and apparently has less reliability. 2 of the 6 reviews on HC say they received them DOA.
