What country do you think, or like the best, contributed the most to metal or gave it the best bands? Overall, entire span of the genre.

as far as contributing the most, it's britain. hell, sabbath pretty much CREATED the genre, can't do much more contributing than that.

Scandanavia does contain countries though.
Countries which have produced some of the best metal ever.
America has done well and some of the more "fashionable" European countries (Italy, France, etc) have done well for avant-garde metal. Australia is pretty dull with metal, but every now and again we do well.

I'd have to divide this into different time frames, haha. Many countries have great metal bands, but I'd put it this way..

70's/early 80's - England, hands down
mid 80's - early 90's - USA
Mid 90's - present - Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark

Of course I'm very biased on this one, but it is an opinion, right?

Also, one must not forget Zimbabwe's contributions towards the symphonic black metal genre.

Sweden has some pretty good bands, especially death metal bands. They created the Melodic Death Metal genre
#32
as far as metal goes, my favourite band right now is Strapping Young Lad, so Canada gets my vote.

then again, that'll change within an hour probably
#33
Germany

Helloween, Gamma Ray, Blind Guardian, Rage, Primal Fear, Kreator, Destruction, Accept, Sodom, Scorpions, Edguy and so on...

UK and US are pretty close though

This.

And we Canadians do pretty well too.

Canada wins for technical death metal. Amazing stuff. Martyr, Neuraxis, Cryptopsy, Quo Vadis, etc. etc.

Imo America is probably the best, because although we didn't found metal we have metallica, megadeth, dark angel, overkill, death angel, forbidden, flotsam + Jetsam, Testament, Exodus, Exhorder all great thrash metal.

We invented Death metal in Florida and created greats such as Death, Morbid Angel, Obituary, Possessed, Master, Atrocity, Cannibal Corpse, Nile, etc.

Also prog & technical DM started in the US with Death, Atheist, Cynic,

Brutal Death Metal with bands like Suffocation, Immolation, Dying Fetus, Deeds of Flesh, Mortician

UK does win with classic heavy metal and NWOBHM (duh!) as well as for Grindcore cause of both Napalm Death and Carcass being from UK.

Norway for Black Metal

Sweden for Melodic Death Metal

Germany for Power metal imo... Helloween. (and probably also Germany for Speed Metal, although America and the UK both have their goodies).

The point of underground bands is their not popular or famous most of the time. Thus there is a good chance they suck.

No, I do not believe you do.

Anyway, England - Black Sabbath pretty much invented it, NWOBHM bands like Motorhead, Iron Maiden etc. influened so many modern bands and even though America has bands like Metallica, etc. those bands would be nowhere without the older bands I already said.
EDIT: And grindcore.
