I've noticed that every pop-punk musician with a signature instrument is signed onto Fender or Squier, with the exception of Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day; Lead Vocals, Guitar) who is signed to Gibson. So why do Fender/Squier seem to have so many pathetic musicians signed onto their name?

List of Pop-Punk Signatures:

Guitars -
Tom DeLonge (Blink 182) - Stratocaster Custom
Deryck Whylby (Sum 41) - Telecaster Custom
Avril Lavigne (Avril Lavigne) - Telecaster Custom
Josh Farro (Paramore) - Telecaster Custom
Bass -
Mark Hoppus (Blink 182) - Jazz Custom
Pete Wentz (Fall Out Boy) - Precision Custom
Mike Dirst (Green Day) - 60s Precision Custom

I am sure there are more, but these are the only ones I am aware of. So how come Fender and Squier seem to sign so many Pop-Punkers?

By the way, Pop-Punk is my favourite kind of genre, but I am just pointing out that most of these players, especially Avril Lavigne, do not deserve signature and custom guitars when other amazing players have not got their own signature guitar.

Because they're big names. Big names sell. Fender want their guitars to be sold.

You mean Matt Rach? Yupyup.

The answer why Fender/Squier sign deals with so many pop-punkers is probably because they used Fender stuff before the deal xP

deryck whilby didnt, he used to use various PRS and various les paul juniors

Josh Farro is actually a really solid guitarist. He's really creative and plays really well.

i agree, and i wasn't aware he had a sig guitar ? doesn't he just play a standard 72 deluxe tele ?

he has a signature now, not sure whether you can buy it :S

and onto the thing about tom delonge, he was originally signed to fender then switched to gibson because he had back issues and had to play guitar higher up and this is what he said - "playing stratocasters higher up doesnt look cool so I changed to gibson"

They pick the most popular artists and make sigs for them so that they can make money from them.

Why do you think there's so much Slash, Zakk Wylde and Dimebag stuff that you can buy?

There are plenty of Pop-Punk / Emo / Light Hardcore guitarists that use Gibson as well
(though they might not be sponsored to them)

Why are these guitarists sponsored by Fender/Squire?
Because they are popular and obvious can do what they need to do
strats and teles fit this music great

its not that, its the fact that they sign them, give the artist a good model then the one that they sell off in shops and online sucks, the derych whylby is pretty nice and mark hoppus's bass is nice but the others are so bad and overpriced

A) If google coundnt find Josh Farro's sig, i doubt its there
B) Style doesnt matter that much...the guy from slipknot has a sig tele....slipknot....tele...yea
C) Fender is just trying to sign the biggest artists they can, and gibson is giving out sig models a lot less freely than fender, which is why it seems like all these pop punk guys have them. because pop punk is currently popular and will make fender money

Hang on... Josh has a signature???

Or in Final Fantasy terms, think of him as always casting Reflect on himself. The only way to hurt him is to cast Reflect on yourself and bounce Firaga off yourself.

What a load of rubbish. Just punch him in the ****ing shins.

Isn't Tom's signature from the last album on Gibson?
