So I am working on teaching a friend guitar and they are coming along amazingly with melody but I am having a hard time teaching rhythm. I know I need to point out counts as you strum but I don't quite know how to word it or go about telling them how to strum... are there any good lessons any of you know of that can help me teach this to my friend?

I know if you can do it you should be able to teach it but its so second nature for me that I don't even think about it anymore.

lol I never thoguth about showing her that, now a new lesson... teaching her beats... sure quarter and eigth notes will be easy but the slured and dotted might be interesting for her

^^Those are supposed to be chords, right?? Because you've just written A.

Apart from that I agree with mdwallin, teacher her basic rythms would be best. As well as those ones, I like ones that are played off the beat, like (all in 4/4):

quaver, crotchet, crotchet, crotchet, quaver or
crotchet, quaver, crotchet, quaver, crotchet (this one's more common)

Get her to strum these ones while tapping her foot on the pulse.
